Homework load at Baltimore area private high schools?

It is unusual for kids chasing highest rigor to have any free periods at Gilman or Bryn Mawr. And kids have to do multiple seasons of afterschool activities eg sports, theater. So there is not much free time during the school day in which to complete homework.
Junior year was by far the worst. My kid would tell you it has totally been worth it however.
