| Op here. Thanks everyone. We are not taking this year. |
This is exactly what was shared with my DC’s class too when they were freshmen, and they did take the AP Bio exam that year. The real benefit is for students who aren’t planning to take the year-long AP Bio course but still want the AP credit for college, since a score of 5 or 4 often fulfills about 3 credits natural science gen-ed requirement at most colleges. |
We? They let parents inside the exam room?
|
LOL Now you know who is going to write the essays. "Weeeeeeeeee"! |
| Relatively few kids take the AP Bio after 9th grade bio. There’s just no point when taking the AP bio course itself is a prerequisite for many senior labs. It’s just not true that lots of kids at TJ self test AP biology. However it is very true that kids at TJ claim to do things they are not actually planning to do. If you really want to know, ask your child’s counselor. That’s one easy phone call or email. |
| DC has signed up for AP Bio test, few of their freshman friends did as well, based on teacher's input. Ask the bio teacher, not the counselor. |
| Definitely check with counselor and TJ test coordinator—bio teacher has nothing to do with ordering exams. Also you realize that there’s not a lot of point to all this unless you score a 5, right? |
| It's an easy 5 for TJ students, maybe not for all, but for most who signup. TJ test coordinator has kept signup super simple, and counselor goes with whatever the student prefers, especially if a Bio teacher is backing it. |
What are you doing at TJ High school for SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY if you need to take an homeschool course to avoid taking a SCIENCE class in college. |
There's not really any point at all. 3.5 years later either they'll need to take Bio 1 in college because they forgot what the crammed or never learned it all, or they won't be interested in Bio 2 so having a Bio 1 credit won't matter. |
Why do you think this parent would be better than the student at writing the essays? |
you seem misinformed. Bio teacher was right. With just the AP exam, got 8 credits at UVA covering BIOL 2100 and BIOL 2200 |
The official AP score report will indicate that the AP score was cancelled by student. |
| Wtf? TJ parent here - why would they do this? They still HAVE to take the AP bio class... |
AP bio class enrollment is not required. However, few freshman do take AP bio exam. |
