OP does not have enough time to fall through a ring of standing stones, time travel several centuries, fall in love with a hunky warrior, get pregnant, escape the consequences of the battle of Culloden, engineer a return back through the stones, and still get back to the daily grind on Monday. Need to save time travel and pregnancy for a longer vacation when they can be properly enjoyed. |
+1. It may also be still warm so could spend a morning at the ocean on tybee island. |
Are you in DC? I do a Philly to Portland AA flight periodically and I find it a tough flight. Long, no food service, uncomfortable seats. I wouldn't do it for a quick getaway. |
Old school DCUM -- quirky, funny, with just a tad of snark. I love you. |
Gosh me too. The Gaylord is a conference hotel I’d be so sad doing a solo trip where I work. OP Portland is too far for a short trip, same with Sedona due to driving. I’d do Savannah or Asheville. Santa Fe is another great option it’s often where I go (female) for solo weekends away great food great art great museums. Good vibe. Stay at ojo caliente! |
I think it's a personality thing. My priority would be the solo aspect. Beyond that I don't really care if I'm staying in a shoebox or what. Second priority would be seeing something I want to see, but that's not the lodging. |
Portland has weird vibes.
Savannah is kind of boring, you see everything in 1 day. Asheville would be perfect but idk how the recovery is doing. Sedona would be amazing if you're okay with getting there. Never been to Nashville. |
OP, are you interested in history? Andrew Jackson's plantation The Hermitage is near Nashville. I thought the guides were good and the tour was interesting. I also enjoyed going to Vanderbilt's campus. |
Portland is fantastic, so it would probably be my first pick.
But if you are willing to consider other cities, Loiusville, KY is also really cool...and a place you might not otherwise visit. |
This. It’s beautiful there in October, but I went with a friend for a few days and the drive is very dark and hilly/windy. I would have been really nervous if I’d been alone. |
I always do NYC for solo trips. Museums don't get much better. |
If it were me, I’d probably look for shortish direct flights and go somewhere where I would not need to rent a car. If you are hoping to see a museum or two, I’d consider Atlanta, Miami, Chicago, and Toronto. I’m assuming you’ve already been to NYC and Philly. Of the places you’ve mentioned, I think I’d choose Savannah. You can fill a few days there for sure (though not much more than that). |
Thanks all for these ideas! I chose Savannah and staying at Hotel Bardo! So excited! |
