| If you shop poshmark for older clothes, how do you handle knowing your size? And does Poshmark do returns if you buy something that doesn't fit? |
I wish I could do that. Nothing fits me and it takes hours to try on things in the stores just to find one thing that doesn't look great. Being overweight makes it all impossible. Back in the day I could always find good quality clothes at Woodies and even Lohmans. When Macys took over Woodies, the clothes were supposed to be better quality. The clothes in Macy's women's dept are awful. For a long time, there were no clothes above a size 14 at the better stores. Shopping for clothes in store is a miserable experience now. |
| You've GOT to start buying vintage and used clothes from thrift stores, boutiques, Ebay, anywhere you can find them. The fabrics are better and so is the construction. While I still buy a few new things, I buy most of my clothing used because of the superior construction. |
EBay requires all sellers to accept returns. Doing a one for one replacement for items you love that have worn out or that you want more colors for or sticking to brands where you know your sizes helps with that issue. |
| I was thinking recently, the fashion has not actually gotten expensive as fast as groceries. I was pleasantly surprised by some cotton T-shirts and pants that I bought from Old Navy for $10-$20, and yet I bought a watermelon the other day for $12. |
| Absolutely disgusting. We’re at a low point. |
You ask sellers to measure for you if they haven't done so of their own volition, and usually what they do is lay out the measuring tape for width, length, etc, flat on the clothes and upload those pics to the page so all interested buyers can see them. |
| I remember getting a 100% silk top at the Limited!!! How time have changed. |
| And yet I noticed when in Spain, that basic every day stores were full of cotton and linen. America has decided to make natural fabrics a luxury item, despite cotton being a staple crop of our country. |
Related... We can say the same thing about bed linens. I went to Walmart to see if I could get cheaper bed sheets. Like, simple cotton. There were no cotton options! They sell something like "cotton blend" and it's 97% polyester. Every single option was completely or mostly polyester. So of course I bought cotton sheets from Amazon. But it's really tough right now - it's like a form of inflation, that they've slowly replaced every natural material with polyester/oil by-products, and you have to really search, seek out, and pay more if you want plain old cotton or natural fibers. And I am not even talking about organic/sustainable brands.... Just plain old pesticide/gmo-grown cotton. |
| I stock up on cotton clothes whenever I go to India. Otherwise I buy on Ebay or Poshmark. I’ve managed to figure out the sizes for the brands I like and if in doubt I ask the seller for the measurements. I also have family members who are happy to take what really doesn’t fit, so I’m not too worried. |
| Quality clothes still exist, but they are soooo expensive. It's astonishing that I have to pay $600 for a decent pair of pants. They last though. |
Sheets are another thing that do not last. I remember having sheets for literally decades that remained in good condition and now a set will barely last a year. Panties too. I used to have panties for 10+ years that were still in near perfect condition. Now, again about a year. These two examples are not fast fashion and yet still contribute to the same problem = giant piles of textile waste. |
Yes, if you are super picky you can find relatively decent stuff at stores like Old Navy, Gap, Gap Factory, J. Crew Factory, etc. But it takes so. much. time. |
Target's Threshold sheets are still cotton. They wear out after a few years, but at least when they're decomposing in the landfill they're actually going to break down. |
