Iconic Barnes and Noble at Tysons mall closed today: I am NOT ok!

Also, just get a damn e-reader like the rest of us in the 21st Century. Ir if you insist on a hard copy, get it delivered to your door from Amazon.

You have no soul.

It will reopen in a new location in early 2025.

What is happening to all the staff? Sad.

Some of you don't remember when Tysons was one floor. THAT was iconic.

I didn't know it was closing.

Everything has been 50% off there for over a month!

Is the sale still on?

I’ve been at Tyson’s the past 2 weekends. It’s booming! Not a ghost town at all. It looked like it was back-to-school weekend or Christmas. Tough to get parking. People brushing shoulders because there was so much flow. Far from a ghost town!

Agree. Tysons is always packed.

And, yes, I believe either Cheesecake Factory or Maggiano’s are moving there from Tysons II.

I went to a section of the mall just a few weeks ago where all the businesses were empty near where they have Santa / Easter pictures

What makes it iconic is her memories of it and your “solution” of just reading on a device and having things delivered via Amazon is why we’re now in this awful hellscape of no physical media and no third spaces. We can’t just accept the closing down of every single place that provided goods and services because Amazon can download the thing on our fiftieth Amazon device.

Agree. If you can't understand why someone would be sad that a bookstore they'd been going to since childhood was closing, something is off with you.

Ooooh - call me basic, but I really like Cheesecake Factory. I've yet to have a bad meal at one.

I get it OP. Still not over B&N closing in Bethesda

I miss the malls of the 80s and 90s.

The mall I remember being built amongst fields when I was a kid and where we roamed as tweens with friends and I worked part time while applying for “real” jobs and grad school after college has been completely torn town.

Is it because crime at the mall skyrocketing ever since the metro stop opened?

Why would criminals in VA ride the metro? Don't they all have cars?

It's because Jeff Bezos

That's right Jeff Bezos comes to your house and types on your computer all your Amazon orders.

That's right most Americans were not using Amazon during a pandemic.

That's right Amazon doesn't help the elderly or anyone who has trouble leaving home.

That's right Ameirica's youth doesn't predominately shop online.

You are an idiot

Maybe Amazon Fresh. Or a CVS.

That’s such a bummer - was really a nice layout. My local B&N in Springfield is still open. Kid can easily spend $100 in 5 minutes

I didn’t think anyone actually went to that location.

Or the fresh baked bread place in the Bloomingdales wing.
