The breeder moved out of the country and is no longer breeding dogs. Apparently this dog was part of their last litter. My contract specifies they must to be asked first if the dog needs to be rehomed. They are not taking the dog back.

I will gladly take the dog if it's a havanese. It sounds a bit odd that the breeder moved out of the country that quickly and the dog is only 3 months when they come home at 12 weeks but we'll take it as we have a havanese and would like another. How do we contact you?

The breeder is in her 60s and is originally from Puerto Rico. I wasn’t aware she was going to move and stop breeding. Would you be willing to work with a rescue to vet you?

No, I'm not willing to pay a rescue as I think most of them are scam given what they charge. We'll go back to our breeder for a second at some point. We have a great breeder and for what the rescues charge I'd rather pay slightly more and go through our breeder. You are welcome to see our home, meet our dog, and see how well cared for she is. My spouse would love a second dog.

Which breeder?

Why?

I’m just not giving the dog the attention and affection he deserves. I would never bring a dog to the shelter and I am not able to give the dog back to the breeder. What’s the most responsible way to rehome the dog? I have no issue keeping and caring for the dog until a family is found.

Should have thought of that before you hired a breeder. There are too many animals to care for already. Can't charm your way out of the damage you've done.

This sounds 100% fake. The breeder placed all the dogs and packed up and moved away that quickly? And, several of us have said that we'd take the dog. If it's not aggressive and they can provide paperwork, I'd take it right now.

If it's for real, this breed needs a lot of attention and hates being left alone. They are very demanding, to put it nicely so I could see how it wouldn't work for someone but most people look and see they are cute and that's it.

You seem happy with the first and are willing to go back for a second I figured it was a pretty good breeder....

Why not find a breed specific rescue. Don't just give it to anyone.

This is OP. Someone has hijacked this post and posted pictures. I have not. I’m going to speak to a rescue Monday and see about working with them to find the dog a home. Someone should report the photos.

You can report it. Why not post an email, and talk to some of us?

This post seems to have already triggered a potential bad actor pretending they were me. I want to responsibly rehome the dog and don’t have the resources or knowledge to background check strangers. He is not yet neutered at the advice of the vet to wait for him to be 9 months old and I don’t want someone turning him into a breeding dog. I will speak to a rescue group on Monday and post their information to this thread.

They don’t do real background checks. You can neuter him now. Rescues are selling the dogs. They speak to a family, maybe go out once and that’s it. It’s all a show. Why do you think so many dogs get returned.

Absolutely false. Rescues are saving so many lives. And the background checks that the rescue I volunteered for does extensive background checks, including making phone calls to the person's vet. It is not "all a show."

OP, if you are in the DMV, consider contacting the largest rescue in the area -- Homeward Trails.

Again, all that says nothing. It’s all for show. Homeward trails is the absolute worst money maker. Look at their financials. This dog has a home and just needs a new family. Really a call to a vet takes five minutes. And, it tells nothing.

They get returned because people lie and when they realize animals are work they want a plush do instead.

People suck. It isn't the rescues fault.

You mean had a home. Op signed a contract so they are obligated to return the dog to the shelter.

Op you are probably going through puppy blues. It happens to a lot of people. If you can't stick with your commitment and try a little longer I hope you never adopt. Sometimes things are hard and if you expect instant gratification than having a dog or cat might not be for you.
