I agree, but the insecure mothers won’t have it.

Uncool pants? The horror!

LOL that’s not how childhood development works. I could have a drawer full of “uncool” pants for DD (and I have, before I learned I can’t buy ahead anymore), and she’ll rewear the same acceptable ones and flat out refuse all of the others. They can wear whatever they want, but you can’t make them wear whatever YOU want.

I’m guessing that’s what this thread is. OP is trying to buy on clearance. In so doing, she needs to predict what her child will want to wear next year, which will not be the same as it right now. At least for me, that’s the scenario in which I ask these types of questions.

I think it depends on your kid. They were all my kid wanted to wear through 3rd grade but now at the end of 4th grade she’ll only wear solids. Her older sister wore them through 5th. They wear uniforms to school so I’m not sure what kids are generally wearing there but kids at her activities and parties are still wearing printed leggings.

3rd grader still wears the sparkly Cat and Jacks but not patterned. But for the most part we stick with solid black or athletic pants.

That's how I read it too...the OP doesn't want to buy a bunch of clothes only to have her DD announce next week that she doesn't like them. I mean, we all seem to agree that kids should be allowed to wear what they like (within some parameters, of course), so if OP's DD announces that the patterned leggings are too babyish, then OP should honor that and not make her wear them, right?

I just go by what DD wants. She’s in first and has recently asked for her first pair of ‘athletic’ leggings but her other leggings are from cat and jack, mostly solid colors, but she also wears some patterns like rainbows. She used to be a heavy dress with leggings girl in preK and into K but she’s veered away from that in first. I can still get her to wear a couple of her dresses though. Mostly big t shirts.

My 5th grader regularly wears plain print leggings and her favorites are snakeskin pattern.
