Can anyone explain why there is no school on Tuesday June 4?

Huh? No we don't. We want to be done earlier in June.

Right we're working the same amount of days whether or not this is off

+1

As a result of this day off students’ last day of school is a Monday. You think teachers want that??!!

Teachers don’t want that day off. It’s only delaying the end of the year.

Two years ago (I think) schools were open on primary day, which was a day or two after the Uvalde shooting. I’m a dcps teacher, I cannot describe to you how horrifying it was to see strangers coming in the building that day, even with that part of the building blocked off.

That didn't take long for the anti-teacher rhetoric to begin. Are you sure it wasn't the union?

DC really needs to get the voting precincts out of the schools. We have so many rec centers, libraries, churches, etc. They shouldn't be closing school for a damn primary that already has comically poor turnout + universal mail-in ballots.

I don't even know the day of the primary because I fill out my mail-in ballot weeks in advance. Who has time to wait on line between work, kids, cooking dinner, etc? Absurd.

NP and I agree with you about it being silly to use schools as voting precincts but I’ve never had to wait in line to vote. It takes like 7 minutes of my time and I always walk right in.

Amazing! They want you to submit your own calendar. Central office is the laziest group of do nothings in the city.

I want to laugh/cry at your post. They truly are something else.

Can I take this year's calendar and just put a giant red "X" through it? So many weird partial weeks plus the stupid last day of school on a Monday.

And next year looks even worse!

An election that virtually no one bothers to vote in. But, sure, let's cancel school.

Well, it only takes one whack-job with an AR 15. They wouldn't cancel school if they didn't use the schools as voting precincts.

In fairness, that’s all it ever takes. I walk straight into my dcps ES all the time. There’s nominally a security guard and I march right past the office, but no one stops me.

And the security guard and other admin at your ES probably recognize you.

At your MS and HS it will be different. Even if they know you, the security guard will make you sign in and possibly check your ID.
