You've either never looked at Jackson's website or social media or you don't know what a Republican or Democrat is.

But Alexandrians don't want change in the city or in the schools. That is evident from their voting habits.

I'd like to see some accountability for Ashley Baird. Her original campaign website was full of ideas and change that she said she'd advocate for in ACPS. After the election, her website was scrubbed to be a cheerleading site for ACPS and, when he was superintendent, Greg Hutchings. She said teachers were lying when a few brave ones spoke out. Her big concern over weapons detection was if the system would be atheistically pleasing.

I doubt her main constituency of private school parents cares or even knows. No need to ask and make things awkward at their cocktail parties.

Agree - she is disappointing. Ugh!

From her (poorly written) op-ed on why she is running for city council:

"Equitable access to a high-quality education for all is why I chose to run for the Alexandria City School Board. I know that a high-quality education is key to escaping poverty, helps reduce inequities and is critical for the prosperity of our city. On the School Board, I have fought to close the achievement gap, ensure the voices of parents and students are front and center, achieve educational equity and support our teachers to ensure they receive the resources and pay they deserve."

She'd been on the board for six years...ACPS is in worse shape. The idea that any school board member in the last six years has ensured that parent and student voice (unless you're an ACPS cheerleader/PTAC sycophant) are front and center is laughable.

+1. She has done little of substance during her years on school board and has never once returned an email or engaged with parents. She keeps being re-elected, though, so I could see her being elected to CC as well, based on what I don't know (name recognition?).

She will absolutely be elected to CC. Also, have you every tried to find out what her day job actually is? It's not easy.

I honestly don't think she has a job. Neither does Baird. Or Rief. People say they are "consultants" or own a consulting firm, but who are their clients? I am not sure what Greene does for her day job. I think the other two are stay at home parents, which is fine. But don't pretend you are a small business owner or a consultant or professor.

Who are the people running in C? Are Baird and Booze running again in B? What about A? Is it Rief and Tim Beatty?

Why does ADC field all these recent college grads? Are these the only people with time on their hands to run for office?

I am not a fan of Jackson, but Gaskins lacks experience. It is beyond me how people think they are qualified. What is Wilson's new job? I thought he was a civil servant for his day job.

Agree. Finding information on Rief is hard. And boy, does she have some really wacky ideas based on her candidate form for an out of state group that gave her $$$.

No, that Steve guy is a republican. Amy Jackson is a standard milquetoast centrist Dem.

That's why I"m going to vote for him! Amy is not centrist. She's just as radical as the others but also flip flops based on who she's talked to last.

City Council:
Sarah Bagley
Kirk McPike
Canek Aguirre
Jesse O'Connell
James Lewis
Charlotte Scherer
John Taylor Chapman
Kevin Harris
Jonathan Huskey
Jacinta Greene
Abdel El-Noubi

Not a fan of any of these choices. I got one foot out the door already anyway moving soon since this city has turned into a nightmare.

She fed a NY group some nonsense that there was a charter school movement in Alexandria that she was fighting. If the group had bothered to research the city, they would know how laughable that claim was.

Just because someone isn't an extreme progressive doesn't mean they're Republican. Think about who you're helping by alienating people who share your core values. Not smart.

No, but expressing views that are Republican after your family’s long involvement in republican politics DOES.

If it walks like a duck, etc.

His ideas are pretty much aligned with Jackson's (after she flip flopped of couse). It really doesn't matter though. Gaskins is the anointed one.

There is a reason Alexandria and its voters are a punchline.

I must have missed Jackson trying to tell citizens that crime is the highest it’s ever been and if they can’t see it they’re blind. I missed her talking smack about Louise Lucas’ race.

There is a reason Alexandria and its voters are a punchline.

Then get out there and run yourself! Don’t just talk the talk- walk the walk!

What about his platform sounds Republican to you? The talking points I’ve read made him sound like pragmatic Dem. The extreme progressive agenda has brought Alexandria onto shaky ground. I’m ready to switch gears.

Also, the mere fact he has Republican family members doesn’t mean he shares their values. This is what you say when you’ve already made a decision to vote for another candidate and want to rule him out without having done research.
