Takoma park

Have you considered Mount Rainier, MD? Similar vibe as TKPK, much cheaper, and locals told me the local police force is really on top of things. We expanded our search to Mount Rainier and were pleasantly surprised.

Where in DC are you moving from? That’s going to impact your sense of safety.

+1 Mount Rainier is really really safe. Chillum/Bladensburg, not so much.

A murder? Hadn’t heard of that.

Yes, that was a horrible and tragic murder, but did not occur in TKPK, MD.

It didn't happen in Takoma Park, DC either.

You’re kind of splitting hairs because it happened a stone’s throw away from both. And it appeared to be so random that it could have easily happened in either. Which is also why you need to look at the overall statistics for where OP is looking and not single incidents.

Careful now, or you’ll fall into the NY Times trope of “blocks from the White House!” with that stone’s throw talk.

(But seriously I do think the increase in gun violence in all jurisdictions over the past few years is troubling.)

This is considered Takoma DC - he was visiting Takoma Village. My point is - crime doesn't need a passport. I live on the border between Takoma, DC and TP, MD - and there has been a major uptick in crime in this this area.

Almost no where is safe in America. I live in DTSS and I don't quake with fear.

Agree. Yet I would not go near DTSS.

A woman said she was horrified witnessing an armed carjacking in the parking lot of a Safeway grocery store on Thayer Avenue about 6:45 p.m. Thursday. “They walked past my car and went to her car, pulled a big, black gun out,” she said. “I ducked.” She said she could not believe what was happening – and how fast. She said she lives nearby and has become increasingly frustrated with crime in the area.

Meh. I was there when it happened ( didn't see anything) but, yet I will continue to live there.

Meh? Someone was carjacked with a gun and you say meh?

That area where he was killed was not Takoma DC. More Brightwood, and quite a ways away.

What were 2 and 3 in your list? I cannot find those when I google the news about them.

We looked at Takoma Park, but settled on Mt Rainier. Safe, friendly neighbors, metro accessible, bigger bang for your buck, schools aren't terrible (but we go private anyways)

Yep exactly. Looking at a map, I can see how someone not familiar with the area would think it's really close to Takoma, but this is more in the area of the Walmart, and that area has had a lot of problems. It's pretty far from the desirable areas of Takoma.
