How long can I keep chicken?

How long will packaged raw chicken breasts be okay in the refrigerator? I bought a package at Safeway on Monday morning; will they still be okay to eat on Wednesday evening if left in the refrigerator? I try to freeze the chicken if I know I'm not going to use it right away, but plans were changed this week.

What is the date on the package? I think they should be fine til Wednesday, just check the date.
