Favorite NoVA winery

Anonymous
Two girlfriends and I are planning a Girls Day Out at one winery in August, ideally someplace where we could do a tasting and either buy a full lunch or at least some basics (bread, cheese, meats) or bring our own. One of the women is pretty knowledgeable about wine generally but not familiar with Virginia wines, so we prefer a winery that isn't of the supersweet homemade blackberry wine-type variety.

Can anyone recommend their favorite winery, probably in Loudon County? We're in Arlington and NW DC and probably want somewhere within an hour's drive.

I just posted about this in the Charlottesville thread, we went to a winery for a girls day in Hume, not exactly sure how long the drive was but it was very pretty
The winery was wonderful! Live music, good food-we had brick oven pizza but I don't know if they always have it.

Paradise Springs, in Clifton. By far the shortest drive from Arlington/DC.

Definitely Bluemont Vineyard, gorgeous lunch spot with great views... Great Country Farms is across the street to pick up fresh produce on your way home.

NAKED MOUNTAIN

This winery may not appear as large as others, but the full spectrum of wines there are delicious, e.g., cabernet, chardonnay, whatever. I did not try a wine that i did not like there, which is hard to find in VA.

If you go there, you can hop to several others nearby too - you will see signs on the road for tons of wineries in that area.

I love Linden but I think you need to be part of the "case club" to go out on the deck.

I would vote no for Barrel Oak if you are going without kids. Linden is a much more "grown up" experience.

We are definitely going without kids!

Another vote for Naked Mountain! I know some people who like Tarara Winery, but I've never been.

Linden is my favorite, Naked Mountain isn't bad either.
