We are looking to purchase a mid to small size car that gets good gas mileage and is a moderate to less expensive. We already have a SUV and are looking for car to get around town in. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Acura TL is better than you think and there are a ton of them out there so price is not bad at all.

Very, very safe car.

Honda Civic - small without being too small, safe, reliable, great gas mileage. Can buy new around $16,000.

We also have an SUV and the Prius is the perfect second car for us. We drive this most of the time (we carpool and kids are in daycare in my spouse's building) and now use the SUV mainly for vacations, big shopping trips and hauling. Love the Prius.

Honda Civic or Fit.

Toyota Matrix. We love ours. We'd look at a Prius V as a replacement at some point.

Not the OP, but I'm considering a Prius (or some other hybrid) in the next year or so. Do you have 2 carseats in yours? I've heard the backseat is tight.

Another Prius owner here who is in love with it! We comfortably fit two car seats in e back of our 2011. Although I don't have Asia as a second car to compare it to. ( our second car is a 05 Camry and the Camry and Prius backseats are basically identical in size) I am a firm believer in avoiding massive cars, just so unnecessary (unless you have 3 plus kids which 85 percent of families don't)

PP 13:13 here. Yes, we have 9.5 mo twins and we have two car seats. They attach with latch in the two outboard positions. We can only seat the 4 of us, but that's fine. It's a mid-size car, so with the two car seats, there is only about half a seat in the middle, but it's enough to put some storage. One benefit is that the Prius interior is more spacious than many assume. The legroom is great, so for me being average size but with longer legs and shorter torso, this works out. Very comfortable legroom. And we use the two footwells under the car seats for a lot of storage. There is a medium amount of storage behind my seat (pushed all the way back) and more behind my DW's seat which is a little more forward. I've heard that the Prius is tight for those over 6', but it fits us fine. Also, we can put a folded BJ CIty Select with two basket seats in the trunk and it only takes half of the trunk (not many double strollers fold this small). We use the two footwells and the other half of the trunk for hauling. This past weekend, we went shopping and I bought 4 value boxes of diapers, 2 value boxes of wipes, plus one more bag of random shopping, on top of the stroller, our large diaper bag and a couple of other bags and everything fit in with all four of us.

I was going to un-recommend our Audi based on gas mileage and repair costs/complicated labor.
