Your kid vomits the night before the championship game

Your child vomits a single time the night before the championship game. She wakes up the next morning and seems perfectly fine, although it was a rough night. No fever present (now). Game is this afternoon. Do you let her play or do you keep her home? Team party after (win or lose).

Doesn't seem like it's food poisoning as that could make her sick for days. You'd think a virus would be more dramatic and make her sick. So, what might make a kid vomit just once? And, if you were the parents of the other kids on this team, how would you feel if she played under the circumstances?

You have a few hours to judge. If she seems fine, feed her now and see what happens. If it stays down and her energy level is up, I'd call it a food thing and let it go. If she starts running a fever, feels "off" or any other stomach bug symptoms, keep her home.

If she does go, be prepared at the game just in case!

How old is she? If she's a teen (and I assume she is), I'd let her make the call (and I'd assume she'll choose to play). If I were another parent, I'd be ok with it, as when something like this happens, I generally assume it's a food thing, even if it's not full-on food poisoning. Or could it be nerves that caused the vomiting?

If this is a young kid (9 or under), I might make the call to not play but if she feels ok to attend the game and party.

No, she's 7. She's on a team with 9 yos mostly.

Can very well be nerves. I used to throw up all the time before a big wrestling match. Happened from about 7th grade all through college. Never had a problem.

Watch, and let her decide. She will know if she can 'go' or not.

Thanks. She has complained about nerves before some of the games early on the season, although I don't think she's been particularly anxious about this game -- or at least hasn't expressed anxiety verbally.

She was complaining of having gas last night, so maybe the sour stomach is a nerves thing.

Anyway, she's happily watching TV now and seems fit as a fiddle, if a bit tired. Maybe I'll keep her quiet, encourage her to nap if she needs to and we'll see where we are after lunch.

It could be nerves or a random food thing. My stomach is sensitive enough that if there's anything not good about my food it may come up or at least cause diarrhea pretty quick.

No fever the last 24 hrs? Probably nerves. I used to get that way. Outgrew it by the time I was 11.

I vomited in between debate rounds if I ate anything. Nerves. Let her decide.

My kid is a puker in general, and will throw up sometimes if something just doesn't agree with her-- doesn't necessarily mean she's sick. So if she seemed fine I would let her play. You know your own kid best, though.

Ask her if she feels up to it before the game. Make sure to give her fluids beforehand.
