I’ve read some history of Stalinist Russia and much of it is similar. People who you would think would be goners for sure are released home while others are shot. Seemed to depend a lot on random things like someone having a good/bad day, beuroctati. ineptitude or laziness, etc. sometimes it’s just easier not to kill someone, or someone delays for whatever reason and then the moment has passed and no one is focused on it anymore. There’s a lot of randomness is despotism. |
I think he’s playing the long game. I doubt he suggested the bombing, but couldn’t figure out a way to talk them out of it without at a minimum making them suspicious or, worse, tipping his hand. He had to play the odds - and, based on her life so far, the odds favor June as having the instincts necessary to survive. He did the best he could - get them to agree to the cease fire. How she survived to get to that point was up to her. Same with cutting the deal with Lydia. If all went well, June would never be captured. It was a long term risk for a short term substantial gain. He needed to cut that deal. Also, his statement about ‘setting out country back on track’ seemed to clearly indicate he was playing Lydia bc they were fighting for two different countries. I will also be p’d off if they kill Janine. |
Is Samara Wiley pregnant? I'm not trying to body shame her. |
Not sure if she was during filming and possibly lost the baby, but she and her wife just had their first baby a few weeks ago, but Samira didn’t carry it, her wife did. |
This season is TOO SLOW. It feels like they're just hooking me with cliffhangers. I just want to read a summary of what happens and be done. I can't look at a close up of June looking traumatized or Moira looking tortured any more. I wish the last episode had less about Janine's boyfriend and more about the Gilead economy. I remember those grocery store scenes looked like they went full communist? Like, if Serena needed a plumber did she call an econoperson with a plumbing business? Or like Central Stolen Mansion Services .gov? Who makes all the uniforms?
I continue to think all the time about where and when everyone goes to the bathroom. |
We need Janine. Her backstory and presence finally bring some warmth to this season. |
I completely agree. I think about this stuff every time I watch and want more information! |
There were some genuinely suspenseful, thrilling, and moving moments in this episode, and it just made me mad that this show isn't consistently like that, because it could be phenomenal, all the time. It's just such a wasted opportunity.
And I can't stand to see yet another long, slow close up of June's face. I feel like they have spend 10% of the entire series' airtime doing that, and I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE. |
Based on commander Lawrence’s agreement:
Is Gilead suppose to come back and attack during this time when Canada is helping rescue post bombing? Or was the plan give aid trap, bomb, then leave ? So essentially when June reunited, would this mean she’s going back to Canada or footless Gilead come detain them again? |
I think some of the commanders wanted to call a ceasefire and then bomb during the “ceasefire”, but in the end they agreed to bomb aggressively just before the ceasefire. Presumably an actual ceasefire is now in effect since the aid group is there and they can take her to Canada with them. Fingers crossed for Janine. |
And it's only a 24 hour ceasefire. I expect Gilead would bomb the hell out of anyone still out and about seeking aid, as well as any aid workers. |
Yes, after the 24 hours. But they'll respect the agreed-upon terms, since they need sanction relief. |
I loved this episode but Janine better not be dead! |

Something is up with Moss’s face this season. Like she is retaining water or something. It just looks swollen and hungover. |
