This is for the dopes who can’t imagine why a foreign corporation would add an established executive from Delaware to its board.

Delaware is the corporate haven of the U.S., with favorable laws for company HQs. Oil and gas corporations and other project-based corporations, including real estate firms like Trump’s, are holding companies, divided into subsidiaries and affiliates to isolate the risks and liabilities of speculative projects to one affiliate and not to the whole parent company.

A decade before Burisma added Biden to its board, it was the majority shareholder of a Delaware-based company, Sunrise Energy Resources, that owned two Ukraine companies that had gas exploration projects. This is how it operated, and is not unique or special to Burisma. Having subsidiaries based in the U.S. helps foreign companies attract investors for their projects. Having a board member from the U.S., and one who is wired into the Delaware corporate haven network, is completely normal for a holding company that uses affiliates and subsidiaries to expand its portfolio. There is no evidence that there is anything more than that in this case.
