By contrast BC is stuck in the 36-37 range for several years and when US News first ranked in the 1980s, Boston College was not ranked in the top 50. At 36 its peers are BU and UIllinois. Excluding the 3 Academies, Holy Cross is a top 24 school with a top 5 alumni giving rate in the high 45-47% range and an alumni success outcomes that BC boosters envy.

Rather than continuing to quote USNWR, which ranks BC and HC on two different rankings, let's take a look at Forbes, which ranks them both on the same list. https://www.forbes.com/top-colleges/

Of the schools being discussed in this thread:

ND #33
Georgetown #41
BU #45
Colgate #48
BC #54
Colby #71
HC #74
Villanova #75
Northeastern #113

Seems to me that HC's peers are closer to that of Villanova and not even close to Colgate. Just give it up ad realize HC's better days are behind them.

Seems to me that you are choking on your attempts to swallow faulty rankings wholesale.

BC will never have the pedigree of Holy Cross night and day. It benefited by location alone like BU and NEU. HC has big mojo in last 2-3 years due to Double Ivy grad President and they have the wealthier alumni body believe doing a $1 billion. Capital Campaign for a 3,000 enrollment school. Holy Cross is the premier Catholic LAC. BC had no way to go but up considering its humble background but it isn’t in the same neighborhood of ND and Georgetown.

Don’t push this. He is not a real academic for a SLAC but was a law professor with a JD. Giving a presidency of a SLAC to a person with such an inadequate (for a SLAC) background is unheard of….unless. Your bringing up his “credentials” is absurd — and I am a HC booster.

Of all the schools to take shots at, Holy Cross is the weirdest. It's an excellent niche liberal arts college, the only Jesuit LAC and one with a long and distinguished history. It's still considered a top 25 national LAC and it carries a lot of weight. It's top grads get excellent jobs and tickets to top graduate and professional schools. Is it Amherst or Williams? Nope. But it's as good as any other top LAC.

I was with you and then you lost me on the last line. Why go there?

The Holy Cross booster learned from the Penn State boosters. Both think they went to the greatest school ever.

Well, Penn is a great school.

That same Forbes list has UCSD ahead of Duke at 20. UMaryland ahead of Bowdoin and BYU ahead of Georgetown. No credibility. Holy Cross is a very good school likely top 15 National Liberal Arts.

Top 25 maybe. Top 15? Probably not. I think HC is a great school, but it is behind Williams, Amherst, Wellesley, and Smith — so 5th — in Massachusetts alone. In my head I easily came up with 10 SLACs better than HC if we had a proper ranking system, not even including the military academies. Heck, there are 3 in Claremont, CA alone…

Seems like this HC thread jumped the shark a while ago.

HC is a top 15-20 school. Smith has no business being in top20. Smith has large endowment but who goes there now. It’s not Wellesley.

Another delusional HC booster.
