St James Academy

Most of the Seniors will leave school now. They have completed their online classes and have no need to be there anymore.
Not sure how the payment structure works, but if they pay monthly this greatly reduces the cost, but puts the St James in a tricky sport financially.

They have already completed a year of online courses in 3 months?

I guarantee they have. Those courses are self paced and can be done quickly if motivated to do so.

Many/most of them aren't "motivated" students. Ask the kids who went to Hayfield or Freedom with a lot of them.

there are only a few that went to Hayfield and Freedom. More kids came from Riverdale Baptist than those schools. They come from public and private schools all over the DMV.

This is the most talented team Overton has ever had.

I know everyone hates the idea of these sports academies, but they are a prevalent and accepted thing in every foreign country.

Kids in Europe who are great at basketball, hockey and soccer attend academies where there is very little schooling and the kids are essentially barely literate.

The DR has baseball academies affiliated with every MLB team where kids train essentially all the time starting at 12 and again are barely literate.

China removes their top athletes from formal schooling and also sends kids to equivalent academies where they just train all the time.

The difference in the rest of the world as that these kids are all trained to go pro as there is no college sports (though some who aren't going to make it pro might get D1 scholarships in the US...especially in soccer).

There also aren't travel sports. Either you are accepted at these sports academies and they exclusively create their pro players...or you play rec for fun.

What happened to the 30+ football transfers at Hayfield last year?

Some probably graduated, some still there, and some probably transferred out.

Anyone know if Saint James football team is competitive on the Virginia state postseason for private schools?

They don’t participate in state postseason play. Frankly, it would be a safety issue if they did.

I think they mean if SJA played VA normal private schools they may injure the opposing team players.

It’s the reason even the WCAC football teams are broken into two divisions. SJC, Gonzaga, GC, Dematha and one other don’t play OConnell, Ireton and those schools in football. I believe it’s self-selecting by the WCAC schools.

In Virginia you have schools like Benedictine, who beat Gonzaga and other powerhouses like Woodberry Forest and Trinity Episcopal.

The postseason is supposed to be the best of the best. It’s not really that with St James.
