He pretty much is. KJP says the quiet part out loud. Doocy: “And I understand that President Biden historically has spoken —” KJP: “Yeah.” Doocy: “— very forcefully about anti-Semitism, but this week, he's not. He's MIA. Is he that worried about losing the youth vote with these protesters?” KJP: “I'm going to be mindful. You're talking about youth vote. You're talking about 2024.” Doocy: “Support of young people.” KJP: “No, no, no, no. I — I — I — I have to say what I have to say and just give me a second. Uh, so, I'm not going to speak about....and I — I'll speak more broadly. I can't speak to youth people, youth and support and voters. That's not something I can do from here. Uh, the President has taken a lot of policy actions here that he knows that young people care about and a lot of those actions are popular with those young folks, whether it's giving a little bit of breathing room with student debt relief — so we made announcement today, matter of fact, and we are going to continue to do that, because we think it's important as families or as an American and you coming out of college and you wanna build a family by home — uh — you have the opportunity to do that and not be crushed by student debt. The President understands how important it is to deal with that issue. Climate change — something that young people really truly care about. One of the crises that the President said he came into having to deal with was the climate change crisis. This is a President that has taken more — has taken aggressive, aggressive action to deal with climate crisis. You know, look, I can't speak to — um — I can't speak to youth voters or their support, but we're going to do continue to take actions that we believe helps all Americans and all communities.” |
Why do I keep seeing six-figures of student debts discharged from multi-degree professional class persons making six-figure salaries?
That is truly horrible optics. Aren't there millions of legitimately still poor Americans -- largely minorities and poor white people -- with delinquent federal loans who never finished college? Discharge those. |
Because they did 10 years of public service at a non-profit or government employer. Which is exactly according to the terms of student loan law signed by President GW Bush and passed on bipartisan basis in Congress. Do you want Biden to disregard the law that covers public service loan forgivenss? |
Because it’s popular and the right thing to do. I paid off over six figures in student loan debt myself. For years, the government made PLENTY of profits off me and my fellow borrowers for what are effectively non-dischargeable loans. The government should lift its people up, not bury them in lifelong debt servitude. Contrary to the assertions of the billionaires, real economic growth comes from lifting the bottom up, not scraps of hoarded wealth trickling down. |
Biden tried to do this and the Supreme Court knocked it down. It was a blanket $10K forgiveness across the board (OR $20k if you were a Pell Grant recipient, aka came from a poor family). So yeah, he already tried to do this. Biden admin has been forgiving loans according to the current programs allowable by law: 10 years of payments during public service (PSLF); 20 years of repayments for undergrad-only debt; 25 years of repayments for graduate debt; forgiveness of loans from universities that closed or were fraudulent institutions; and forgiveness of loans for people who have "total and permanent disability" |
Correct, no more federal student loans. Time to let the private market hand them out. |
LOL why are you advocating for something illegal? Congress needs to change the law to end the program. And who do you think donates big time to Republicans in Congress? A: private for-profit schools that get gobs of student loans |
Sure! And make them dischargeable in bankruptcy like every other private loan. |
Then, why are TAX PAYERS being forced to pay off the loans. Why not the people and groups that committed fraud????? |
DP. So you say the same about Trump, amirite? |
Then sue the Arts Institutes for restitution. This administration is handing out free money hand over fist and it’s the TAXPAYERS who are footing the bill. Insane. DP |
Great - so when will the government reimburse me for scrimping and saving to pay the tuition of my own kids? We’ll wait while you spin up some nonsensical response. |
Exactly. |
Holding fraudulent entities accountable does make more sense but deficit spending is much easier. |
