Private School Education for Special Needs Kids

Anonymous
I have been unhappy with public school education for my son in Northern VA and was wondering if anyone has any success stories with private schools. Specifically, my son has some cognitive delays and requires speech and language therapy along with occupational therapy. He is mild-mannered and not at all disruptive. He just would benefit from a smaller environment where he could focus better. He is now in second grade. Anyone with first-hand experience or second-hand knowledge, please respond. Thanks.

Our neighbors child goes to Oakwood in Fairfax. I know it's for special needs children-but that's all I know. It's private.

My DC sounds exactly like yours and he goes to Burgundy Farm in Alexandria. It is a very nurturing place and the small class size is very helpful. It is also very expensive, however, and speech and language support is available on campus but you must pay for it unlike at the public school. You might want to go see the school at one of their open houses just to get a sense of the place ...
