| my DD (9 weeks old) is been having stool in her stool and the diaper is of a seed-ish consistency. She is exclusively breastfed and has been taking pedi-visol for about a month. Now,I think it is because of the vitamin(it contains iron) bacuse she eas ok before taking. I have stoped(after talking to her dr) giving it to her a week ago but I still notice some(less than before) blood and poop is of a green color...What do I do? her doctor has no idea what it is bit I'm worried....Thanks |

Here's a link. Seedy poop is normal, and green has many possible causes, none of them dangerous or frightening. Blood that is bright red can be anal fissures, also nothing to worry about - the blood that is worrisome is black poop - blood that comes from farther up the digestive tract.

| Why on earth does the doctor have "no idea"??? It may be perfectly normal for the blood to be in the stool, but it worries me that the doc. is clueless! |

I had a similar problem when my DD was about your DD's age. It is very common. My doctor said the green color is from baby not digesting breast milk properly, which could happen for many reasons -- stomach bug, teething (too much saliva), food allergies (cow milk), etc. She was still gaining weight so doc didn't think it was a big problem and if it didn't clear up in a week, come back and she'd run tests.
So after it didn't clear up, I removed cow's milk from my diet, and her green poop went away. Milk intolerance runs in DH's and my family, so I figured that was the problem. Doctor said that babies usually outgrow the inability to digest cow's milk after they are 6 months old. |
