N. Arlington boundary changes

Anonymous
Did anyone attend the info session for the new school that is going to built at the Williamsburg campus? Is there any word on boundary changes that will result from the construction or will it be a choice school? I keep hearing chatter that some boundary lines will be redrawn in parts of N. Arl, but it's all gossip to me at this point.

just make that new school and the one at Kenmore AAP centers, and forget about boundary or overcrowding all together for years to come!

In the proposal Williamsburg was listed as a neighborhood school. Boundary planning to start soon

Things will get real hot in Jan/Feb when discussion over boundary changes will happen. Don't bet on the Williamsburg school to be a choice school.

To the poster who said AAP - we are not Fairfax county. No such language as AAP in ArlCo.

pp is correct. Arlington doesn't fuss with the AAP nonsense.

If I were redrawing the boundaries, I would imagine Old Dominion would become a cutoff road -- north of Old Dominion would continue to Jamestown, those in Jamestown south of Old Dominion would go into Williamsburg. Not sure how the Nottingham district would be affected.

Can't imagine it causing too much fuss. The demographics will still be the same.

I hope it doesn't cause fuss. But people's children will have to move out of the school they've known to a whole new school. that's where people will fuss.

I'm just glad this is finally happening. The school board wussed out 5 or so years ago when they knew overcrowding would become more of an issue. Hard choices have to be made by them.

Any word on the other N. Arl schools changing (Tuckahoe, McKinley, Ashlawn, Glebe)?

Does Arlington plan to adjust Wakefield's boundaries after the new school is built? It seems like an obvious opportunity to relieve the overcrowding at W-L and improve Wakefield's test scores.

There is no current plan to change boundaries between W-L and Wakefield. APS believes the population in South Arlington will soon fill the new Wakefield which will have a capacity of over 2000 students, the largest of the three high schools in terms of building size.

If North Arlington gets a new middle school, then changing high school boundaries wouldn't seem so far-fetched. North Arlington once had three junior highs, and so it makes sense that APS is considering building a new one.

I assume this would affect Nottingham, as a lot of the houses that feed into Nottingham might be closer to Williamsburg, and Nottingham is overenrolled. Those are our schools (though my daughter's only 3) and we're about 1.2 miles from each one.

I think that's a safe assumption.

Boundary changes are also slated for Glebe, tuckahoe and Taylor I believe. It will affect a lot of people.

The budget documents said that the Williamsburg school would be used to relieve overcrowding in N. Arlington and mention one school in doing so -- Tuckahoe. Boundaries will have to change there.

haven't had a chance to read the budget docs, but is there any decision to convert the madison center on old glebe rd and to make a new ES - possibly as an additional measure to relive the ovecrowding at Jamestown/Talyor?

I don't think so. And I hope not. I'd hate to see the Madison Center converted for that purpose. They're better off with the trailers.
