I know this is very late, but our circumstances have changed. Is it possible to get out of our contract at this point or are we locked in to pay the full tuition? Has anyone ever been able to get out of their contract?
Thanks in advance for your advice. |

Others have asked the same question. Short answer: It is probably not possible. See this discussion:
http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/17903.page#106092 You can probably find additional discussions on this topic by searching on the word "contract" in this forum. |
| Discuss with the school. If it is a *big* and *unforeseeable* change in financial circumstances rather than a decision you have made that changed your circumstances, maybe you would now qualify for financial aid (and if you are lucky there is some money still available) or since they might not find a replacement easily at this late change, perhaps they might help you out in some way. |
| even if they find a replacement, it doesn't mean that you are going to be allowed to back out of your contract. |
| Call the school and ask - worst case you can't get out of your contract, and best case they can try and help. I'm sure in most cases, the short answer is no. |
| Did you buy contract and tuition insurance, by any chance? |
| Thank you for your responses. We did buy the tuition insurance but I believe even with that, you only get a portion of your tuition returned. Am I incorrect? |
Depends on which plan it is, I'm sure. For ours, I believe the amount you get back is prorated based on the date of withdrawal. Check your documents to find out. |
| I believe that our insurance policy pays a maximum of 60% and only after your child attends the school for a certain number of days (I'm thinking 10). |
| I'm sort of puzzled why you would ask this forum rather than just call the school and/or read your insurance contract to find the answer. |
Because I hope to find assistance from kindhearted people like yourself. Thank you for being so helpful and I'm terribly sorry to have "puzzled" you so. |
Yes, maybe we should get rid of DCUM since all answers appear elsewhere... There are a million reasons why someone would ask this sort of question here. Let's start with the fact that it's anonymous. |
| Can't hurt to ask. If you have a really compelling reason AND they do have someone eager to take the place, some schools will be nice. |
| I agree with PP. It might matter quite a bit if the school is a highly sought-after one (like a Big 3) where there would likely still be waitlisted people eager to fill a spot. |
