hello,
Anyone have either or both? can you please share your experience or suggestions? |
What are you talking about?
|
Went with VEST because we're not assuming our kids will want to go in-state. |
Our choice was between suspenders and spats. We went with suspenders because we thought that spats were even more old-fashioned than suspenders. |
The prepaid plan scares me. It only covers tuition and fees, not room/board and other expenses. I think people often assume it covers "everything", but it's really more like half of the cost.
If your child decides to go out of state, you make very little on the money that you put into the fund. We went VEST for the tax advantages and the freedom for our child to go to school where they want. |
19:45 here again. We also have a Coverdell. You're very limited in contributions, but it's the only plan that you can use (for now) to cover K-12 or college expenses. |
Room and board at campus is most often more expensive than not living on campus |
Vest and its state tax deductible and portable |
I'm doing VPEP, on a 5 year plan. Once that's done, I'll contribute to a regular 529 plan (at a MUCH lower amount per year), to cover room/board/etc....

I was wondering if that was allowed...VPEP for tuition and VEST for expenses. |
We have VPEP, VEST and 529. When DS1 chose a college OOS, we simply transferred his VPEP money to his VEST account. We earned the same as if it had been in the VEST all along. |
what is OOS? |
Out of State. That's really good to know about being able to transfer VPEP to VEST! |
How can you have VEST and a 529 plan? VEST is a 529. Also, are you saying that they gave you as much money as if your VPEP money had gone into a VEST? Really? There are a bunch of plans -- did you get to pick which rate of return you wanted? |
