| Considering buying a juicer for my husband and I to use. Goal is to get more veggies into our diet. Would most likely use 1x/day for a breakfast shake. What should I look for in buying one? And would also appreciate any tips on getting started. I want to start easy (and sweet!) with fruits and veggies I recognize, rather than jumping into hard core raw stuff. Thanks! |

I was about to recommend my Omega masticating juicer, but you threw me off when you said shake. Are you thinking juice or smoothies?
We juice and do smoothies (in the Vitamix) daily. If I had to pick one to start out, I think I'd get a good quality blender. You don't need a Vitamix. You're fine with a Cuisinart blender or even a magic bullet. Start with a frozen (or fresh) banana, some frozen fruit like berries, a big bunch of fresh spinach [I promise you can't taste it], and liquid of your choice (milk, almond milk, soy, water, etc). You can add a scoop of protein powder, chia seeds, psyllium husk, etc., depending on your nutritional goals. If you really want to go for veggies (for micronutrients) versus fruit, a juicer is better. Two recommendations: 1) watch Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead (available streaming on Netflix)' 2) consider reading Alex Junger's book "Clean." If you search this board for juicer you will see other discussions on this. Good luck. |
