Feeder Preschools(?)

Anonymous
Hello all

I am new to this group and new to the area and am trying to get an initial feel for the private school scene here as opposed (or similarly?) to where I am from. My first question/concern as I try to research preschools for my son is whether the private schools in this area have certain "feeder" preschools. By this I mean do the Admissions Directors of some private elementary schools generally favor or feel aligned with (politically, philosophically or otherwise) certain preschools? (By this I mean both officially or un-officially). I am particularly interested in the Washington International School, Maret, and Georgetown Day School.

If anyone has any insights (or hunches) to share I would really appreciate it.

Best,

Anna

This has been discussed pretty extensively here already. WIS is a bit different - since it begins at age 3, many kids go straight there from Intown rather than going to a separate preschool first.

Summary: there may be feeder preschools, but noone is really certain. Most commonly mentioned are NCRC, Little Folks, Aidan, and St. John's. But the private schools take kids from all over, and it would be better to pick a school that will meet your child's developmental needs right now rather than concentrating on feeder status.

Do a search for "feeder" for this forum and you will find many old threads on this topic. As pp says, the linkage is often more one of myth than reality, nonetheless patterns do emerge. Welcome to the area!
