Yall feeding these trolls by the bucket full |
12:22 nailed it. You... are sad. |
I was in Tiffany's yesterday buying something. I had on an ethnic shawl that was fabulous. A woman complimented me and asked me where I got it b/c there was no way I got it in DC. She said was from SF and cannot believe how unstylish women in DC were. She'd been here for 40 years. I told her we used to be more stylish and she disagreed! |
The compliment was nice, but it can be irksome when someone assumes that just because they don't know about the existence of something that it must not exist. There are a lot of ethnic clothing stores in the DC metro area. Her local shopping is probably limited to very bland stores. |
Right? There are lots of places to buy "ethnic" clothing and accessories. They tend to serve the "ethnic" community, and are probably not at your basic mall. It's also irritating, because what people really mean when they say "DC women are so basic" is "white UMC DC women are so basic." There are plenty of AA women who dress fabulously, for example. Go to an AA church on Sunday morning and you'll see plenty of personal style. DC also has a large Latino community, especially immigrants from El Salvador, and many of those women dress very differently than UMC white women. Ditto for lots of other ethnic groups--if you think all DC women dress alike, you need to get out of your bubble. |
I'm from SF and it's not any more stylish than DC. Unless you consider polar fleece to be the height of style. |
Also, go to Howard's campus and you'll see tons of stylish young women. |
Get rogered. You and that poster are incredibly insecure. No one thinks al logos equates to style, but that's not what was discussed. So both your appearance and reading comprehension skills require an overhaul. |
+1. I was going to make the same comment. People in SF don't give a damn about "style" -- it's about jeans, t-shirts, a fleece and of course no make-up. |
Basic things are wonderful!
|
I’m not even basic. Scrubs at work. Athletic wear or T-shirt and jeans outside of work. |
No women are as basic as the women in Orange County, California. Trust me. They might do all of the "extras" like plastic surgery, insane lip fillers, etc...but everyone looks the same and is an absolute clone. No originality. It's like they all just aspire to be middle-aged Barbie dolls. I am considered ugly (by women here, not men, strangely enough) because I choose not to look like this. |
I'll take unfashionable over vapid. Try having a conversation with someone from LA or Miami. Just try it. |
Ok, I am DC low-budget basic a la Ann Taylor. However, I am still more fashionable than my sisters in Boston who wear jeans and sweaters to work at start ups and pharmaceutical companies. My look may be boring but it looks like I made an effort to look the way I do, which is all I'm trying for. |
Reminds me of my time in Paris during undergrad! It fits my work files and a sweater! I got used to the no interior pockets and how lightweight it is, so I just keep replacing my bag so that it looks nice. I am not carrying it to be stylish. |
