My 8 year old nephew has cerebral palsy effecting his gait. This surgery has been recommended. We are seeking advice from those with real life experience with this procedure, esp in a similarly aged child. Please share your advice if you can.
Thanks. |
Which surgeon is recommending this? If your siblings would like a second opinion from an outstanding pediatric orthopedic surgeon, I'd recommend Dr. Roy Nuzzo in New Jersey. There is also a very reputable surgeon at UVA--can't recall his name right now. |
They are in the Cleveland Ohio area. Is it possible to consult with doctors on this kind of thing that are out of state? It sounds like that might be impossible or complicated. |
Not exactly on point but some ideas that may help you.
Check out to see if there is a yahoo group for parents of children with cerebral palsy. If this exists, it might be a good resource for finding some specifics - such as the best dr to perform the surgery. Also, in selecting the best dr - I want to share some personal experiences. Hospitals with great reputations (Hopkins for example) has a great reputation based on a few areas of speciality. In other areas, they may not be the place to go. I share this since your nephew is in Cleveland - he may be being treated by drs associated with the Cleveland Clinic (a great national reputation). I honestly do not know the hospitals expertise in cerebral palsy. We live in DC and travel to Baltimore (not Hopkins) to see a specialist for my child. Best of luck in finding out more information |
