If you have a spare epidural at home, I'd take that!

I found it much more comforting than my bunny slippers.

Sibley provided just about everything. Honestly the only things that I brought with me that I really found useful were cheapie flip-flops (for showering), a comfy lightweght bathrobe for wearing in the halls and to classes (bf, discharge, etc.), basic toiletries and my camera.

I also gave birth at Sibley and I agree with the recent posters that you really don't need all that much stuff. Camera, toiletries, flip-flops, bathrobe, comfy clothes to go home in. For the baby, we just brought a special outfit to bring her home in. Of course if you have a baby in the winter, you probably need a blanket for the baby. Your husband/partner will also need some clean clothes and toiletries, but not much else.

I brought everything last time and used almost nothing--agree on flip flops and robe but skip bringing pjs because with the post delivery bleeding, why ruin a good nightie. I would also bring some good trashy magazines and a book because there is downtime during labor when a good brangelina scandal will do you good and .if you wind up with a csection like me, you are in there for almost five days (great for sleep!!!!) which will buy you some time to catch up on a good book.

I found Depends (disposable adult underwear) to be MUCH more comfortable than the little mesh things they give you at the hospital (or even my own underwear) and the giant pads.

Also, I brought and wore a soft pair of socks during labor and delivery to keep my feet warm. Then threw them away.

Although not essential, I enjoyed listening to my iPod. Music helped me relax. I also made sure to take my camera.

I brought way more than I needed. I wore the hospital gowns the entire time because things do get messy. Also, I wore the disposable underwear they give you and not my own during the stay. I did bring slippers, an outfit to wear home, an outfit for the baby, cameras, snacks, and my IPOD. Everything else they will give you. Good luck.

Make sure to bring Blistex or chapstick, most hospitals are really, really dry.

If I am delivering at Sibley, I don't need to bring pajamas and/or pants/shirts to wear during the day? Will I basically be in the hospital gown the entire time (until I leave)? I was planning on bringing 3 pajamas and 2 sets of loose pants/tops.

You will be in a hospital gown anywhere, you certainly don't want to ruin your own things.

After I was wheeled into my post partem room I put on my lounge-around pants and my old/familiar tshirt. No need for 3 sets of pjs especially if you are only going to be there no more than 4 days (and if you have to stay longer, I'm sure your hubby can run home and get you something).

I lived in lounge around pants-bring at least 3 pairs incase you have a c like I did unplanned. I brought some large t-shirts but mostly wore the hospital gowns esp at first when you are a mess I got socks at target that had little dots on the bottom (rubber so you don't slip) and they were so great! bring a camera-I brought a little bit of make-up and I was happy I had it esp under-eye concealer. I also brought my boppy which I used in the hospital to feed baby and at home and now use as a back support in my office chair at home! I had a robe which my Mom insisted was a great idea. I am not a robe person so I did not touch the robe and returned it when I got home! Good luck! This part is so exciting!!!!!!!!! (the one thing I would bring that I didn't was pre-printed paper signs that said-KNOCK AND WAIT FOR AN ANSWER BEFORE ENTERING) every second when you get to your room someone knocks and then immediately walks in-I was so mad since I value privacy and wanted to pump at times or try to breastfeed which I found stressful anyway

The pjs are a personal choice. As soon as I could, I took a shower and wore my new nursing pjs and felt so much better being in my own clothes. I wore the mesh underwear and didn't ruin anything, but everyone is different.

I also brought some snacks and drinks for my DH and it was really useful since we went to the hospital at 230 in the morning. I didn't want him to leave me much, so it helped having snacks. I also brought I Love Lucy DVDs and the Chicago DVD and played them on a portable DVD player which really helped pass the time in early labor.
