Has anyone in history ever commuted from NWDC to Burgundy Farm?

I should clarify -- far NW DC, like AU Park or Chevy Chase (not the NW part of Cap Hill). Anyone?

I think the time on the road is a deal-breaker for all the reasons mentioned in other topics. But this is such a one-of-a-kind school that we're nevertheless tempted to apply.

There might be a bus. Have you also considered Lowell or green acres? They are closer.

Glad to see this post - we're up near Van Ness and though not near applying yet - LOVE everything we've heard about the school! I think there is a bus, but it's not in the upper NW reaches - would love to hear from anyone who has done the commute -

Last year our child was accepted at Burgundy and we agonized about what to do (we also live in NW DC). We love the school so much, and yet panicked at the idea of commuting every day during rush hour. In the end we had to decline the offer. THere is a bus, but it's from Capitol Hill, so it did not solve the problem for us.
Good luck with your decision.

Its more than a 40 minute drive from Upper NW DC, likley more if you take the Beltway. I could not imagine doing this commute with my child for the next few years - I would go nuts. I also think that it cannot be good for the child to be stuck in a car close to two hours each day.

We also like what we have heard/read about Burgundy Farms but have not included it on our list due to the location - we live in AU Park.

OP here, thank you for the voice of sanity. I know in my heart that we just can't do it, and so I need to not think anymore about it/go through the process/possibly get accepted, etc.

Don't rule out moving! This advice is only partly tongue-in-cheek, as we expect we will have to move when DC gets to high school age, thankfully 7 years from now. But we do love Burgundy Farms and would do a longer commute if necessary! Probably not 40 minutes each way, though ...

ACK! I meant Burgundy Farm (no s on the end)!

It isn't just the commute THERE, but the commute back for you. (i.e. when you commute to work, you stay there - when you drive a kid to school, you turn around and go home.)

Personally, I think all the good things about Burgundy Farm will be undermined by all the driving and rushing it will bring to your day.
