Disinfecting Used Baby Toys

Anonymous
We bought a bunch of baby items on CriagsList (swing, bouncy seat, playmat etc.) and are getting them ready for our baby-to-be. I've got the fabric parts covered (laundry) and am curious how people wash the plastic parts. Are Lysol wipes too harsh? Is dishwashing soap and water not good enough? TIA

i have done the lyson wipes and then followed by dishwashing soap and hot water.
you may also consider a vinegar and water mixture. good disinfectant and safe for baby.

Clorox wipes, bleach, etc. I am sure lots of people use. However, I personally am not comfortable using those products on anything that could possibly be in baby's mouth so I use a 50/50 water and vinegar solution. Disinfects just as well without the chemicals.

If you feel like you need more of a "scrubbing action" to get some things clean you can use baking soda and vinegar to get more of a paste/comet type cleaner.

Any pieces that fit in your dishwasher would clean the plastic stuff very well.

I also bought some used toys and threw them into the dishwasher.

You can also use a mix of water and Tea Tree Oil. It's a natural antibacterial that is safe to ingest. We use this for cleaning all over the house even.
