lol, we all said 8/1 for a reason (yes there was originally talk of 9/1, but all official announcements were 8/1) |
BSC parent who doesn't follow huge announcements proves the club is on the way down /s |
I appreciate the thoughtful response. I generally disagree that a Q4 2014 player who doesn't make the U13 MLS Next I or II team for 26-27 would easily step into the top U12 2015 team. The current 2014 top team lost several top players from last year's team and has generally struggled this season. My guess is that they only have 2-3 players with BY after 8/1/14. |
We were one of those families who left. Yes, they are struggling because they don't have SM and loss a lot of talent as a result. Most of our kids were there for SM. I don't know their breakdown but I do know this. There will be Q4 2014's from Potomac, Achilles, Coppermine, SAC and smaller teams like Juventus, Liverpool, etc. playing in EDP at tryouts for the new U12. There will be a wide open competition for the U12 teams at every club, not just Bethesda. Just prepare yourself accordingly. |
So who is as good as SM that these families were willing to jump to? I've been really surprised that so few clubs have consistency in coaching that would encourage families to stay. SM is a good coach but why doesn't BSC just have coaching standards and check on all coaches to make sure they're implementing whatever development philosophy/strategy they have? |
It's a good question. I am not sure how coaches are evaluated at BSC. In my five years with the Club I don't think I've ever seen a club director or age group director observe one practice. Winning, unfortunately, is easy to quantify. I've even hear coaches gripe about it because they feel like no one sees the work they're putting in to improve players. |
It is not that our current coach is at good as SM. He is not. We have gotten reviews from parents of our former 2014 teammates. They are regretting running off SM. My kid loved SM. Others did not. That is a politics thing and the way that BSC handles parental complaints. My kid is learning a different aspect of the game with our current club and we will see what the coaching assignments are next year and make our decisions accordingly. I can say my kid is not learning as much as he would with SM but we make the best of the situation presented. |
| How are people feeling about the way the Fall season has gone for their players/coaches/teams? |
Great! High school season |
BSC is overrated in 2025. Unless we get a miracle coaching assignment, we are one and done. So glad we came to peek under the hood to see for ourselves. |
My kid plays for a Leesburg-based team, Bethesda spanks us every single time. You’re lying through your teeth. |
| I think each gender, age group, coach, and team will have a unique experience that will be color the opinion for each player and their parents. |
| Does BSC allow MLS Next boys to play for their HS teams? |
Isn't that a league rule and not a club rule? |
I think it's the clubs but could be wrong. I heard that Achilles allows their kids to play for their HS teams while also playing for the club while BSC does not. |
