You sound about as awful as the DC restaurant scene. |
Mike Isabella? Is that you? |
+2 founding fathers is by far the most overrate restaurant I’ve ever eaten at in my 46 years. |
I feel bad for saying this but I didn't think that Rose's Luxury lived up to the hype and certainly was not worth the 'no reservations' hassle. |
Yeah the whole wait outside for 3 hours do you can get in is too much. I don't care how great the actual food is-I'm not doing that. When you try that hard to make yourself special I think it backfires. |
agree. thankfully my friend waited for me. it really was not all that. |
That was a NICE friend! I waited with out-of-town foodie guests who really, really, really wanted to try it. It was a nice day so that part was okay but it was four-five hours (drive/park, wait and meal) that I will never get back. The food was fine and the service was fine but the whole experience just wasn't worth it to me. |
This is me! Frankly, I have not even heard of some of the restaurants named here. Admittedly, I am a little dated: there was a time when I was part of corporate life, had an entertainment budget and ate at all the "in" places which were invariably over-priced but I was not paying. Nowadays, the small family run restaurants serve the best food - they are inexpensive with awesome food but little to no ambiance. |
I completely agree and was going to post this myself. It's good, but not "top 5 restaurants in DC" good. And definitely overpriced. |
I think the problem is that almost no restaurant, anywhere in the world, is worth a five hour wait. I had a similar experience at Bad Saint - it was nice but it didn't feel worth the hassle at all. We managed to walk in to Rose's Luxury at about 8:30pm on a Wednesday night, and because it was no hassle at all, it was a good experience. I thought the food was nice but I certainly wouldn't have thought it worth waiting for five hours for. |
I wonder what Tom Sietsema thinks of this thread since most of the restaurants on this thread are always recommended by him. He prob got special status |

And heading out to the 'burbs... I'd heard good things about American Prime at Tyson's but was vastly underwhelmed. |
It was good when it first opened but has really gone downhill. |
Yes it's terrible but it's not technically overrated because it gets terrible ratings. I occasionally have to go there for lunch and it's passable at lunchtime if you have low expectations. |
