Immigration Bill

Slowly the tide is turning

Nachman explains, "The question that continues to arise in the RFEs is to prove that the position that the H-IB applicant will be taking is in a speciality occupation. The new set of questions that we are seeing has to do with why the level-1 wage has been chosen if the position is a 'speciality position' calling for a complex set of duties. As you can see, the US government is requiring us to argue that the position is 'complex' and then, on the other side, asking that if it is so complex why is a lower salary being assigned?"

Please explain why Trump increased the H2B visas by 15K, but not any other ones. Farmers are asking for more H2A visas because Trump's deportation force is scaring off all their workers.

HINT: Trump resorts use H2B visas

No Trumpster seems to be able to address this with any logic or valid points.

Is that you Mr. Z?

When the H-1B visa was created in 1990, it was intended to help the U.S. attract and hold onto the best and brightest foreign graduates – like engineers and scientists – and provide a pathway to citizenship. At the time, members of Congress promised U.S. workers would be protected.

Former Congressman Bruce Morrison, then Chairman of the Immigration Committee, authored the bill.

Now 2017 - "The H-1B has been hijacked, as the main highway to bring people from abroad and displace Americans." Bruce Morrison

Bill Whitaker: You came up with this legislation. What do you think of what it has become?
Bruce Morrison: I'm outraged.

See bolded. Yet, again, can't answer the H2B question, can you - "No Trumpster seems to be able to address this with any logic or valid points.". The only thing you keep doing is deflecting to H1B visas.

I can answer why foreign guest worker visas of any kind are popular with businesses... because they help the businesses save money. Just ask Trump.

So, if it's good for Trump, why isn't it good for Mr. Z?

And oh, yea, I do work in IT, surrounded by H1B workers. I'm not defending that H1Bs are necessary, except maybe for the very specialized skills, but I understand why CEOs use cheaper labor. If you owned a business, I bet you would want to pay your workers the cheapest amount possible so you can maximize your profit. Why do you think businesses want lower taxes? It's not because they will grow their business; it's because they want to maximize their profits. Just ask Trump. He knows all about maxmimizing profit by lowering taxes AND using cheap foreign labor.

So, now that I have addressed why CEOs want H1Bs, why don't you try addressing why Trump increased H2Bs by 15k while denying increases for H2As - farm worker visas that farmers who overwhelmingly voted for Trump are asking for?

we have answered it multiple times and clearly. H2Bs should be eliminated also. no doubt about it. Just like H1Bs, H4, F1, OPT, J-1, L1 and all the other fraudulent visa catagories. So that means we are on the same page, eliminate these bogus visas.

as yourself say, H1Bs are for cheaper labor. they are not for high skilled labor, that is a joke. they are for cheap, low-skilled, temporary guest workers.

Finally a government that is putting it's own citizens ahead of foreign guest workers that give more profits to CEOs

Challenges to H-1B Applications Increased by 45% from Last Year

Reuters reported that data provided by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) shows that between Jan.1 and Aug. 31 of this year, USCIS issued 85,000 challenges or “requests for evidence” (RFEs) to H-1B petitions. This is a 45% increase compared to the same period last year which only issued around 59,000 RFEs

“What the Trump administration has done for the first time in a very long time is take seriously the fact that companies are misusing the H-1B system,” said Russell Harrison, director of government relations at IEEE-USA, the American branch of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

Both Democratic and Republican lawmakers have criticized H-1B visas, because the biggest beneficiaries are outsourcing firms, which critics say use the program to fill lower-level information technology jobs and replace American workers. Members of both parties have introduced legislation this year to reform the visa’s use.

Jeffrey Gorsky, an attorney with Berry Appelman & Leiden LLP, one of the largest corporate immigration firms in the country, said one of the firm’s clients, a mid-sized tech company, was hit with six RFEs from USCIS in a single day this year. Between late 2015 and the end of 2016, the company received just one RFE on an H-1B visa petition, he said.

Far different than a century ago when huge groups from Eastern Europe immigrated legally. Kids learned English asap in school. My parent was amazed at the time given for esl for an easier language like Spanish.

Should my taxes support granny or should all support including healthcare premiums [no reduction] come from their sponsers?

The thing is, that due to massive immigration from the Americas, especially Central America, there is no incentive to learn English anymore, for Spanish speakers, NONE. The majority really does not make an effort.

Just the opposite. Steven Miller could barely disguise his racist views. And his claim that because one has to speak English to naturalize, immigrants seeking green cards should have to speak English too a was bullshit argument, and he knows it. Immigrants learn English here. "Ahistorical" my ass. Afactual is more like it. Miller is a faux intellectual mean-spirited jerk. Trump only hires the best people !

You don't have to speak English to naturalize. You can have a translator.

In other words, Trump wants to model our immigration laws on those of Canada.

Explain why you hate Canada.

That's not entirely true. Both Canada and Australia allow elderly parents to immigrate, which this bill does not.

it has a special visa for elderly parents that allows them to live here.

Visa? Can anyone provide a link to this bill? I must have missed it.

What would be much more interesting, is what this bill or any other bill intends to do about the massive illegal immigration from countries like El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala .... The people who do come forward, currently have to wait for a court date until 2021 !!!!

No wonder our system is paralyzed!

I say fix that first!

New Update

None of this is radical as mainstream media claims. These are common sense proposals.

Border Security:
-- Complete construction of the southern border wall, to be paid for in part by allowing the Department of Homeland Security to raise fees from the processing of immigration-benefit applications;
-- Prompt removal of minors, including unaccompanied alien children, and relatives crossing the border illegally.
-- Stricter standards for people who claim asylum;
-- Expand the expedited removal process, including hiring an additional 370 Immigration Judges and 1,000 U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement attorneys;

Interior Enforcement:
-- Stop sanctuary cities by making them ineligible for certain federal grants;
-- Hire an additional 10,000 ICE officers and 300 Federal prosecutors to handle immigration cases and boost law enforcement;
-- End visa overstays;
-- End catch-and-release;
-- Prevent gang members from receiving immigration benefits.
-- Protect U.S. workers by requiring E-Verify and strengthening laws to stop employment discrimination against U.S. workers.

Merit-Based Reforms:
-- End chain migration by limiting family-based green cards to spouses and minor children of immigrants who are here legally;
-- Establish a point-based system for awarding green cards that protects U.S. workers and taxpayers, encourages assimilation, and ensures the financial self-sufficiency of newcomers;
-- Eliminate the ‘Diversity Visa’ lottery that awards 50,000 green cards at random to foreign nationals, many of whom have absolutely no ties to the United States, no special skills, and limited education;
-- Set the number of refugees at an ‘appropriate level’.

As a liberal, when you bring this up - the Latino groups hammer you.

They are fully against Australian/Canadian type systems.

We should be bringing in more Japanese, Koreans, Jews, high IQ northwest Europeans.

Not the dregs

+1,000

So much common sense. I really do not understand why liberals are against limiting immigration and illegal immigration.
