How can you NOT like living in DC?

What was said was one of DC's issues was the distance from the ocean (granted), "or for that matter, any natural bodies of water". Last I checked, rivers are considered bodies of water. If the poster said "or for that matter, any safe natural bodies of water", then okay but the poster said "any natural bodies of water". Nothing was said about if you could fish in it; nothing was said about drinking from it; nothing was said about swimming in it, just that DC is nowhere near "any bodies of water".

Perhaps the mistake was that some of us probably thought of things WE like to do at water bodies, and how some of those said water bodies in the area fall short of our expectations to do such things. There are also varying interpretations of what people mean by "natural." In any event, it seems like an awfully silly thing to squabble about. So what if the Anacostia isn't everyone's cup of tea.

Salt water, you idiot.

Throwing insults, I see. U mad?

Okay. The prior poster is referring to salt water, not "fresh" water.

Got it?

(Facepalm). Of course, natural=salt. Got it now.

Thank you. Geez, some people can't differentiate salt water from natural bodies of water. If salt water is "natural", then the fresh water MUST be artificial!

People don't like to admit it, but black-white relationships in DC are horrible. There is no middle class. The public schools are not good. The elitism of the NW residents has virtually no equal anywhere else in the US. The younger residents seem old before their time and just waiting to stop playing kickball and take up shuffleboard.

Some of the architecture is nice, but there is nothing that truly soars or inspires. The federal buildings are mostly bland. Once you've seen the monuments and museums once, that is enough. And, of course, the centers of government in DC are largely failures. Obama is feckless, Congress is worthless, and the Supreme Court is not remotely in tune with the lives of average Americans.

I would agree with all of this, esp the bolded part. Also, there is very little soul, or character, like you would find in a working class city like Baltimore, or dynamism and creative energy like you'd find in NY or SF, or history like you'd find in an old New England town. It's a very pleasant, walkable city with great playgrounds and tons of entertainment for kids (museums, lots of free events), a very educated population, but a very bland core.

and the Langley, Mclean, Great Falls is generic, rich, over achievers. unless you are part of the club you will be an outsider. and you know when you are not part of the club.

I chose to be not part of the club. Do not feel like an outsider, but then I'm not sure I would notice if I was?

Great downtown. Not too big, enough greenery. Nice neighborhoods close to downtown. Good food, diverse with large international population, I had Ghanaian food the other night. 2 international airports, great schools. Where do you people want to live ? Atlanta? Charlotte? Chicago? Bleh. DC is amazing.

I have no energy to read through the 15 pages of posts but we moved out of DC last year to Europe and miss it dearly. DC is a fantastic city and we can't wait to return.

People are rude, diplomats are rude, bad drivers, overbearing parents, bad traffic, overpriced housing. At least the restaurants are good. Oh yeah, pathetic sports teams

That's what I love about them! They try so hard! C'mon, give the Nationals a break. Wait, do you mean the Redskins? Yeah, they suck.

Everything else you wrote I agree with. My main issue is with the traffic. Rush hour is from 3pm to 7pm! Trying to get out of the city on the weekend, the traffic is worse outside the city than inside!

Thank MD and VA for DC's traffic. The Skins are not such a bad team with three superbowl wins. Last season was a disgrace, though.

Hell, I've noticed all DC teams improving on performance for the last four years. Lets go Nats!

How are so many people not familiar with salt water? Is that possible?

The discussion about bodies if water...all sides. Exemplifies perfectly how/why someone could NOT love living in DC.

Why did you bring this up again? Long story short, the poster said "any natural bodies of water," making no distinction between fresh water and salt water.

Where does it say rivers are not considered "natural bodies of water"?

Don't come to DC if you wanted the beach to be within a mile.

I love complaints about horrible lawyers, lobbyists, journalists, etc. Most of those complaints are by people who are lawyers, lobbyists, journalists, etc., or stay-home mommies who are supported by the same (or by the rarified class of noble doctors).
