Potomac charges its students 50K+ per year, so yes, they're not apples to apples with TJ who takes kids who have significantly less resources and privilege. |
| Nice try, but Potomac charging tuition isn't nearly as relevant to NMSF outcomes as the profile of students who TJ is admitting. |
Having a school full of rich kids who are progeny of parents who presumably have high levels of academic attainment isn't correlated with performance outcomes? Um, no...you may want to look at some research on this. |
| Even assuming there is a positive correlation (which could mean anywhere from R=.01 to R=1), what makes you think that should mean the progeny of parents with high levels of academic attainment should regularly be achieving top 1 percent standardized testing outcomes, especially when Potomac is admitting most of the rich kids when they're not even 10 years old? |
Basis is also 25% of the class. |
Agree. This was a dumb comment when you look at overall numbers of kids in each school. Have to look at the denominator. |
You also have to look at student demographics. Some public schools have 30-80% of their students receiving free lunches because their family incomes are so low. Some have substantial shares of students who are English Language learners. All have students with disabilities that most private schools would automatically exclude. So to say "let's look at the denominator" when the denominator of private schools is primarily wealthy and children of the highly educated, is not the right metric either. |

Holton confirmed highest number of all independent schools in the region this year.

Indeed. Even if some of the girls didn’t show up for the pictures. (There are more than 10 NMSFs) |
That's great, but TJ (the public VA magnet that is free of charge to those accepted based on merit) has 100+. |
Already discussed to death in the first 14 pages of this thread. |
The unusually strong year for NMSF at Holton has already been discussed to death as well. |
| When did these kids take the psat? |
Last October. |
