Why? What if snow starts at 2 and starts actually sticking at 6?

And what if it starts snowing at 11 am sticking at 2 pm? No one is going to be able to predict the moment snow starts sticking. Everyone surrounding MCPS is calling it early.

But what if it starts even earlier? Close mcps you can be different by closing instead of a chaotic early release.

Doubt it, high school busses are about to start their routes.

Does Mcps have a crystal ball? Shocking they didn't close with a possible earlier start of "snow"

Teachers in MCPS live in Howard. They'll be leaving to pick up their owns kids now that Howard is early release. That leaves MCPS with needing substitutes and we all know there is a shortage.

Not Howard yet. But Howard is much very "liberal" with their closings. They even have days with no school or early dismissal for staff wellness. They'll close early for a legitimate snow threat.

PG and Frederick County has also already called 2 & 3.5 hr early dismissals.

C’mon MCPS, let everyone know now so they can make plans. My kid doesn’t get off the bus until almost 5pm with dry weather.

Yes but so did all the neighboring systems.

more like parent’s complaints about every weather related decision got to the decision makers and now they’re afraid to piss people off. We go through this every few years.

How late can they pivot to an early dismissal? I assume the noon time referenced in the message yesterday was more in reference to changing after school plans.
Anonymous
I believe they have to decide by 10am to do an early dismissal.

How many snow days did the other systems build into their calendars?

I don’t know but I would consider that less relevant to to the decision to close schools and more relevant to calendar planning. The calendar has been made; if it’s safe and feasible to go to school, fine— and if it’s not, it’s not. Hopefully nobody says conditions aren’t great but we don’t have any snow days left.
