Is that all you really think of when you hear Baltimore?

He kinda has a point though.

UMBC is in the suburbs.

Those neighborhood surrounding the campus don't look any neat.

It’s better than some other ones in Baltimore at least, it’s not too dangerous around the UMBC campus either, I assume people just say that because it’s part of Baltimore.

It's Baltimore County.

What happens to parents who don't have cars? at least with DAR or the Comcast center you can take the Ride-on or Metro

Our high school arranged bus transportation.

Yep this is not a new thing. It's been going on since at least the 1990s, if not earlier. If you want a quaint graduation of 50 students on the football field, move out to the sticks and go to a tiny high school. You're in MCPS, get over it and figure out a way to make enjoyable/special for your graduate and family.

It'll be here and over before you know it

Congrats class of 2024! You made it! And you are getting a graduation ceremony unlike some college graduates who didn't get a HS ceremony and now won't have a college one either.

None of us are excited to get up early and drive up to Baltimore for this impersonal graduation, and I don't even want to ask family to do this. My kid is already asking if they can just skip and sleep in. Is there a way to make this celebratory? Go to lunch afterwards?

Don't go no one will miss any of you.

JFC get a life.

An education is a gift you don't want to go fine. Who cares

Did you expect something else?

They should have graduation before the three day weekend in May. What is the point of going to school for seniors after they are finished testing?

Woopee, testing ends even earlier!

Yeah this thread again! Between this one and safety, rampant use and alleged weapons in HS, I'll take this one. Thanks for the break from harrowing news.

When they announce names, can it be heard clearly at this UMBC arena?

Graduation should be held on the football field at the school after dusk when it’s cooler, and they should delay until the next day or week if there’s rain.

My kid graduated at Sherwood a couple years ago and it was brutally hot.

If they can play football games after dark, then surely they can hold a graduation after it cools off in the evening.

Too easy for MCPS to figure out. They want to make people wake up extra early, drive for up to an hour plus each way. And apparently more costly on a HS field.

Wow, we're still complaining about this?

Not only that but people are still complaining that MCPS didn’t let them do graduation on the football field 🙄
