AAP coursework and projects

What is the coursework in an AAP vs gen ed? Can you give me some examples of the project work? I am not clear. Thanks.

One example: for my DS's 5th grade AAP Center book report, he made a model of the Roman eagle standard (a key item in the Rick Riordan book Son of Neptune) and made a booklet affixed to the eagle with the book summary, list of major characters, the scene, important plot points, etc., and presented to the class. Most of the work was done in school (so there was little "homework" other than reading the book) and I think that helps nullify the possibility of parents doing the project work.

I teach MS, and I'm not sure if your kid is at that age yet, but the biggest difference for the projects is expectations on how much work the AAP students can do on their own, without teacher help. For my non-AAP classes, there is a lot more in-class help and time to work, and many more checkpoints. By the time they get to MS, I assume the AAP kids can do a lot of that work outside of class, so there is less involvement on my part (of course I am always available for help if they need it!).

Interesting. In elementary AAP, it seems that almost all of the work is done at school. I suspect they are trying to see what the child can actually do rather than they overachieving helicopter parents. I have a 4th grade AAP student. I find it amazing who independent she has become there. I just check to make sure her work is done.

Right now third grade is studying Egypt. All kids are doing a project (model, diorama, poster, etc) on a subject. The AAP kids have to present something that was NOT covered in class.
