GA has always been in between ECNL and RL. Some RL teams stand out, but most don’t. The difference is made when you step up to the national platforms. Local Loudoun teams in ECNL struggle on the national platform as they don’t properly develop the kids from pre academy on up. Local Loudoun teams have excelled on a national platform, some even winning GA nationals. Most of the kids who kick the ball and run fast fail the older they get including if they make it to a college team. The GA might just pass ECNL due to their partnership with mlsnext. It certainly is a well run league which is not true about ECNL. Remember ga is largely a reformulation of the DA.

At least one team is first place in the Mid Atlantic contending for nationals. Many people don’t understand how GA works.

Not true. Best GA team is 4th in Mid Atlantic. That’s good for first year, not need to make stuff up that is easily fact checked.

You don’t understand how it (GA) works as the PP stated. The 2009 team is in first place right now.

Could you explain how it works? GA website (via Got Sport) shows them in 4th based on PPG. Surely you’re not saying they’re in 1st based on total points when that’s a function of their playing 6 matches when the top 3 teams have only played 3 or 4 matches. No need to oversell; 4th is fantastic for their first year. If I’m missing something, I’d be happy to be corrected as I’m a fan of what VRSC is doing and want to see them succeed.

The mid atlantic conference has a north and south division. The top team in each division gets automatic playoff bid. VRSC is top of the south division. South division is virginia and maryland teams. North is new jersey and penn. The mid atlantic conf will probably split into two next year with all the new additions

PP said "first place in the Mid Atlantic contending for nationals." That's a little different than first place in the south division of the Mid Atlantic when all the good teams are in the north division. Again, 4th place in the Mid Atlantic is a fine place to be for their first year in GA. No need to oversell.

Will this get old, playing the same teams and girls from NOVA and MD? I get that there are the tournaments and that matters most, but most of these kids have been playing each other since u11. The same teams will be the same teams and vice versa in league play. It is starting to feel watered down again in the mid Atlantic for GA.

They've been playing each other since U9. Even in ECNL, one of the advantages of playing for Bethesda compared to the VA clubs is the shift to the North Atlantic division where they see an entirely new set of clubs.

6 wins through 9 matches played and they don't really even get to play any of those north teams this year, not bad.

An entirely new set of stronger clubs overall than what ECNL MA is.

Clearly this poster only intends to throw shade on VRSC. Probably a ls parent trying to justify his position.

Not the original poster, but I don't think you understand how GA/playoffs work. The MA is broken up into "north" and "south", with the north and south winners getting a Champions League playoff birth. Currently, the U16s are first in the south. Maybe that changes as the season isn't done.

Everyone is is mid table, which is just fine for first season and will get better next season through natural progression and NVA defections.

It's a reflection of the FCV team that mostly chose to go other places (e.g., not VRSC).

Do you not see what VPSL/RL is around here? I doubt MA will be split into two conferences, it will just go from 14 teams to 16 teams. Playing those teams up north is a good thing even if it’s just once a year.
Yeah but isnt RL supposed to be a notch below GA? Some kids might have chose RL because they need or want to stay local. GA adopting RL model and calling it elite seems contradictory.

Yes, but when they split the local teams last year, it weakened the GA teams for both clubs. The conference will likely be split next year as they are adding three teams, maybe more.

Three? NVA , McLean , and ?
Loudoun

NVA = Loudoun.

As one of those NA ECNL clubs, our team does plenty of friendlies against the PA/NJ GA clubs which helps a lot with playing the same teams over and over. Also nice there are a lot options in a ~1.5 hour radius.

As someone with an older boy who takes soccer seriously is there no path forward with Vrsc since Loudoun officialy got MlsNext? Is there a chance Vrsc got it too?

There's still a small chance. Nothing has officially come out from MLSN on adding LS but MLSN is known for not saturating the market. so unless they believe the quality of players is there for 2 MLSN teams in the county, that's the only way VRSC gets it too. MLSN does want to grow which is why they now have MLSN2.

The other option is for VRSC to go after the ECNL void left by LS joining GA. If they can't get ECNL or MLSN, the boys program won't grow. The boys that play for VRSC will be the ones who enjoy the game and aren't serious about playing in college.

Go compare every ECRL team in the area, including those at the big clubs, in the Rankings app—VRSC teams are literally hundreds of spots above those ECRL teams. So NVA and McLean had better hope their ECNL players will follow them to GA.
