Taking a Poll...

So, if you had 17 years worth of photos stored in boxes but wanted to be able to display them in albums , would you:

1) Send them to a scanning service and have them all digitized to make albums from Shutterfly or some other online service?

2) Buy a scanner and scan them yourself and then make albums through an online service?

3) Buy a bunch of albums from some place like Michael's and organize them that way?

4) Other options besides throwing up my hands in despair?

I am looking for the most cost and time effective method.
Thanks in advance.

I like albums with pictures, so I'd go that route. Buying at michaels or a similar store.

Scan them all and store them off site, then pick a few albums worth of your favorites and make albums.

Depends on how much time you have. Ideally, I would have them scanned (depending on price) and make albums. I highly suggest blurb.com, very professional albums and they often have discounts, especially on multiple items.

If you are really pressed for time and you really just want to get the pictures organized, wait for Michael's to have a sale/coupon and go buy a bunch of albums and slip the photos in. You could do this over the holidays with kids and family - sort out the photos you want to go into albums ahead of time and each person gets an album and stack of photos. Would probably be fun for everyone to look through the old photos.

Can anyone recommend a good & inexpensive scanning service? I also have a box of old photos I'd like to digitize.

I would seriously edit out the ones that you don't like, are dups, and don't need. Do you need 20 pics of decorating the tree every year?

Then I would send out to be scanned, while keeping the originals in boxes.

Then I would make albums on blurb, which is great.

My mom did beautiful albums, but it was impossible to sort btwn kids. If you do it digitally, you can make each kid their own album.

Hmm, should work on that myself!

I'm in the process...

I'm organizing them in albums by period and scanning the best ones in the process. I'm marking the scanned ones so one day when I get the time (if I ever do) I will go back and scan the rest.
