What was the process like? Do you need a lawyer or can one do the paperwork alone? If I need a lawyer, can you recommend any inexpensive or pro bono lawyers?
I will be seperated for a year by Feb 2012 and want to begin filing out my documents. I also have a 9 month old son who I have exclusively cared for since birth and wanted to find out how to go about getting sole custody. Thanks! |
| Does the father want involvement? |
| He wants to be minimally involved in the child's life but has no interest or intent in supporting him. He sees him once for 10min -15 mins at a time every two or three months (he is 9 months old and has only seen his dad about 6 times) and has has only give me $600 total since his birth back in February. |

Former family law MD. Anne Arundel YWCA may be able to help. Also try contact MSBA MD state bar assoc. for the person responsible for solo practitioners. A solo can work with you on cost. Just post attorneys name first. I had 1 opposing counsel really mess up his client and if you ask our opinion on him I will tell you skip it.
Your ex can forget it. He will pay court calculated support or go directly to jail. Keep track of your expenses (diapers, cotton balls, day care, nipples) If you have his info (SSN) helps Same for the tax info (support is based on his income) Know his banks? Don't violate the law to get this stuff Also don't tell him what your are doing Also contact your local court to file the support process It is due from the day you file |
| Thanks for your tips above. I will follow up once I have the name of a lawyer. |
