Too many gifts, stop the insanity!

I wish the whole office gift giving trend would die. I mean really all we are doing is exchanging stuff. It has gotten so bad, at my office we are giving gifts to people for everything from major surgery to bunion removal. When does it end? I am just waiting for someone to hit me up for 10$ because Suzanne is having her lower back tattoo removed. I have been asked for money for usual stuff. And the crazy stuff. Because a few women in our office can't or don't want to have kids, we gave them "doggy showers" for their new puppies. We gave a huge gift basket to a co-worker because she had her vagina tightened. (not joking) Lots of drama recently because someone had minor foot surgery and we didn't have a gift basket for them on the day before the surgery. Ridiculous. I have spent over $300 on these kind of gifts. I am just sick of it. We should put our money in a pool and make sure everyone gets at least $50 a year and call it good.

Approximately how many people are involved (i.e. work in your office)? I can't believe someone told their colleagues about their impending vagina-tightening surgery!?!!?!! Good lord.

New Year's Resolution for your office - no more organized gift giving. If Suzy wants to give Sally a gift for her new puppy, child, grandchild, pre-surgery, post-surgery, DOG'S surgery.....so be it...on her own.

We do no gifts at all at our office. Even for Christmas, it's just pull a name out of a hat and buy for that one person.
