Plaacenta grading

Hello
At 27 weeks i was old my placenta grade was II. The doctor does not seem to be concerned at all, i.e. she says it is absolutely normal. I read on internet that garde II should occur at 30 weeks or later... Is anybody here knows anything about it?

I am not sure what a II is - but I had a low lying placenta in the beginning and was told that it corrected itself and ended up hemoraging(sp?) at birth - I would make them recheck it. I think I would have been more proactive knowing what the posibilities could be. It could have been a number of things with me all dealing with the palcenta... but doesn't hurt to have them double check. Make them take you serioulsy. BTW - everything worked out fine in the end. Good luck to you!

Well, placenta grading is maturation of placenta. When you only start pregnancy it is grade 0, then it progresses to grade I, II and III over the time. That means the placenta gets older and poorer to transfer nutrients to the baby. Grade III is ok at 37 weeks but not earlier.
PP above, what you are refering to is placenta placement in the uterus, which I have high and fine (thanks God for that), far enough from the cervix.

It seems doctors do not really care about grading of placenta in america as long as it does not show someting rediculus (like grade III at 25 weeks). I could not find much info on internet about it either. While in the country where i am from (Russia) doctors would probably already start thinking about giving me something for better baby nourishment... to make sure it grows normal. well i think i will not worry yet then, but will definitely ask my ob next visit.

Maybe somebody here on the board is aware of their placenta grading and the gestational age???

I don't have specific knowledge of this issue, but I recall from your other threads that you have GD. I think one of the concerns with GD (and again, no personal experience here) is that it can cause the placenta to mature earlier. So perhaps it's more normal to have that issue when you also have GD? In any case, that's something you should really discuss with your OB. If you have specific info about how this situation would be handled in Russia, you could talk to your doctor and see if you can implement that here. Also, are you being seen by a high-risk doctor? I don't know if your situation warrants it, but perhaps that is also something you could discuss with your regular doctor. A specialist may be better equipped to handle your particular case.

Anyway, this was probably not very helpful. But in any case, good luck! Hope all turns out well for you.

Thank you, but i think i may be not a GD, maybe somewhere pre-GD. Thanks God no matter what i eat (i do not eat candies and cakes anyway), so far my sugar blood was quite below the treshold. And i do test ever 2-3 hours just to see how my body reacts to different things. Also what I found was the high blood pressure does mature placenta quicker, but GD on the opposite tends to slow down the maturation.
I am just wondering if anybody actually paid attention to placental grading on their u/s reports...

I think that you need to trust that the doctors know what to look for and when to be worried. It might make you more relaxed to call the doctor and have him explain to you what your ultrasound showed and what it meant. My placenta aged too quickly and my DD was delivered prematurely b/c of it-- but this is an extreme. Again, I think you should trust your doctor!
