Teething at 18 mo

Anonymous
Not to sound like a dork but how can I tell if my 18 mo old is teething? He used to have obvious signs, gnawing on things, swollen gums, intense drooling. Now, he has about 20 teeth (estimate- he won't let me poke around and get a good count without chomping down!), with some molars, already - and I can't imagine where more teeth would fit! So, without the obvious signs, how do I know if he's teething when he gets the major crabbiness, interrupted sleep. How many baby teeth even come in?

There are only 20 baby teeth in total and, wow, I've never heard of getting them all so early. At least you've put that behind you!

Indeed, the doctor always comments on it at checkups...doesn't want to stick his finger in there to get a count for fear of losing it It made going to solids very easy but boy when we're playing around and he playfully bites me, holy cow - it's tough not to cry!
