Are there any day cares that allow an academic year schedule (September - June) or is it best to be considering a babysitter or nanny if one does not need care over the summer months?
Thanks! |
Some do. For example, Academy Child in Montgomery County, MD, offers a school-year option, but I wouldn't recommend them. |
| where are you located? |

i am in fairfax county and would gladly work with a teacher who just needs care during the school year.
On the norm, providers need to either be paid to hold that spot during the summer months to guarantee a child coming back or the parents would have to risk not having a slot come school year. In the past I would have a parent pay half fee to hold their spot with the understanding that if they needed me a day here or there during the summer for anything they needed to go do, I would be available. And they had a guaranteed spot come fall. it gave me the opportunity for a lighter load, enabling me to take the remaining kids out for summer activities. Nowadays, I am not so worried about being paid to hold the spot because very rarely do I have my full time spots filled. I have 2 open now, and to be honest I like to keep my numbers low so that I can get the opportunity to spend more 1 on 1 time with each child in my care. |
| I have had a teacher schedule through Infant Toddler in NOVA. My provider was willing to let me take my son out for the summer without paying for that time, but as the PP mentioned, many places will have you pay half tuition to hold a spot (which is not unreasonable). |
| I totally understand why places do charge to hold a spot over the summer. I'm just trying to explore if there are any places that happen to cater to teacher schedules. Your Fairfax care location sounds great ... unfortunately we are in MoCo so the location doesn't work for us. Thanks for your feedback though. |
| Kenwood Park Children's Center runs from Sept.-June. Lots of teachers send their kids there |
| I am in moco and willing to work with teachers' schedules (I am a former teacher myself, just embarking on this daycare adventure!). My website is www.pecanplacedaycare.com. |
