Does anyone know of any of these schools in Montgomery County or Prince Georges County?
Has anyone used one, care to comment? |
Ohr Kodesh is a Reggio Emilia preschool in Chevy Chase, MD. I don't know of any elementary or higher schools (but I haven't looked).
I like the philosophy and it works well for our child. The focus is not on numbers and letters, but rather on growing and self-awareness. I'm not an expert by any means, so I really don't want to comment more on the philosophy itself. But our child has really enjoyed the school and we love getting the photo albums at the end of the year that document the learning process. |
The downfall of Reggio Emilla (at Ohr Kodesh) is that the teachers spend a lot of time documenting and recording what the children say in order to display it in the classroom (part of the philosophy). This takes time away from interacting with the children. I would frequently see teachers leaving the classroom (one would stay) to print out photos of the kids in action. It seemed very time consuming. |
to the PP, I have a child in a Reggio program and that is not at all the case. The teachers do documentation after the children leave for the day. I could not be happier with the program. |
In response to 15:53, I am very surprised to hear this. My DC is at Ohr Kodesh and I have never gotten the sense that documentation has gotten in the way of interaction with the kids. (I am around a fair bit, and I do see the papers listing what the individual children say.) I have complete confidence that the teachers and staff know my DC very well, are always available to her, and love her dearly. |
