It's absurd! I cannot believe I've spent nearly $1m on this school for two kids. the one chapel speaker (an alum) who the kids said was the best speaker the school ever had, spoke about his experience going down a bad path and then turned his life around through christianity. The teaches and admin were furious and sent the kids a message saying they did't endorse the speakers views. The views of Christianity at a supposedly Christian school. Its such a joke and most kids can see right through it. |
Many have tried over the years to bring these things to the admin and they just don't care. |
My kid thought that speaker was terrible. He talked about how he cheated all through his time at SSSAS and after, and was never caught. He talked about how he was getting away with being a terrible person, but because he found god, he confessed and now is a good person. He had been asked repeatedly to submit his speech in advance (which is typically done) and evaded it every time, so admin and teachers were blindsided by his message of cheating with no consequence throughout SSSAS. Of course they were angry about that. |
wtf? Seriously this admin takes their families for granted. |
the school is in no way conservative. At Shrinemont the boys and girls were separated. The boys played basketball and flag football. The girls had to do a deep dive with a therapist and I think the outcome was that everyone is racist. |
They will listen and take the call but nothing ever changes. |
|
They just don't care. Its unbelievable for the amount of money we've paid. |
| the school should focus less on politics and other BS and just get the kids prepared for and accepted to college. Period. I am so sick of all this stuff. For the fortune we're paying, just get them into college |
+1. This is the problem. As the only true game in town for Alexandria, they have a captive audience and can get away with garbage like this and they know families will stick around anyway. It's absurd. We left anyway and don't regret it at all. |
We were really hoping to stay through high school but to be honest, I feel like the school is shifting to the right politically (or maybe is more conservative in the upper grades?) and it’s not what we are interested in. I also feel like the lower school seemed like an Episcopal school (chapel and religion but more about faith and meaning in general) and now I’m hearing the head of the upper school talking so much more just about Christianity. And while we are Christian, I really liked that my kid learned about other faiths in the younger grades and now it feels like it’s a “Christian” school rather than an “Episcopal” school (which I feel like typically try to educate kids of all religions). |

US parent here. I get the sense the emphasis on Christianity isn't a shift to the right but a response to the current Administration's attempts to co-opt Christianity.
My kid saw right through the speaker for that reason—he was talking about being saved without doing good works or living real Christian values. |
This. For years on a variety of issues unrelated to this string of posts. |
| SSSAS is a dumpster fire. |
It’s really not. If you find it so, that reflects you. It’s ok if a school is just a bad fit for your kid and family. No school in this area that is in stable financial footing is a dumpster fire. |
