Exactly. |
We’re not Vermont, but we get freezing temperatures every winter and major snow every few. The plows are doing their jobs. We can’t shut down every school forever because a couple of lazy homeowners refuse to shovel or pay $10 to some neighborhood kid to clear their path. |
Sure, my kids are reading books and make their own food, but I don’t trust them to load the dishwasher so even if they tidy up, they’re still a huge pile of dishes from five people and four days. I am just referring to the fact that PP called these core memories, and I feel them puttering around the house doing schoolwork and reading a book while I try to work is not magical. We have a family board game night twice a week, so even that it’s not really a special thing for them to do together no friends live close by within walking distance. If We had a neighbor unpacking kids playing in the snow, that was, where does that exist? |
Sure, who’s all the teachers that have school age kids, we have no problem hiring since we pay so generously |
I feel for you, but also they don't have to be occupied every second. It is very hard to get past that idea, but being bored is ok. I try and remind myself of this when I feel like I need to occupy them every second. That being said, I have no idea how the parking and sidewalk situation will be better tomorrow. What is the end game here? |
This. Instead of closing schools we should put pressure on businesses and homeowners to clear walks so kids can get to school. We should remind parents to make sure kids have the right winter footwear. My school has a church partnership that helps make sure kids have what they need for winter, and adding boots to the list is certainly within the realm of possibility. |
My point was PP referred to snow days as a “core memory” like it was some magical time. First day definitely. Second day maybe. Third, nope — unless they had some secret sauce? I doubt they will look back at a day of boredom as a core memory!! |
End game:

Oh haha well I agree with that. |
You don't trust them to load the dishwasher? I think this post just made my whole day. Thank you. |
+1. They’ll remember getting yelled at for interrupting me for the 10th time while I’m on a conference call. There is nothing magical about snow days when mom and dad have to work. |
I know! Isn't that a core chore? In other news, somehow I broke a big bowl while loading the dishwasher yesterday as the bottom thing slid totally out of the machine. How? I don't know. Maybe the kids are better at it than I am? |
Have you ever seen a kid load a dishwasher efficiently? All it means is have to go back and re organize it before running |
