I actually think this is somewhat true. We have entered the cult of personality state of capitalism. St Ann's is great for setting your kids up to hob nob with DiNiero's or Phillip Glass's or whomever. (note: I have friends whose kids go to St Ann's but they are not the sort to brag to people who don't go to St Ann's about which famous people have kids there. These examples are purely for the example, don't sue me, idk where their kids go.)

So you have 25 who were successful and many if not most of this crowd were heavily hooked--I know kids in the group who are legacy x 2 parents, siblings, uncles, etc.
Others who are the kids of VIPs.
Still great results and very smart kids but many of these kids were going to these colleges from birth. They just needed to not mess up.

Whitman High School having similar returns is not surprising. All of those schools, Whitman, Churchill, BCC, Wootton feed to many wealthy families who spend tons of money on enrichment, friend of a friend internships on the Hill or some fancy place. Let's compare with a high school outside of these schools that doesn't have the wealth and connections. That would truly be interesting.

NP here but my hunch is ED is used loosely to mean an early action of any sort (ED, SCEA, REA, rolling and EA). And I can’t think of any school without some sort of early option. Privates really push getting at least one application in early.

Actually gds started bc some Jewish families and African-American families got together in the 1940s so their kids could go to school together which wasn’t possible in most of the US - hardly Ivy League hobnobbing. But besides that and the other falsehoods in your post, I agree.

You are way over estimating the ED rate. Many kids do not ED. Depending on the school, sometimes you are better off not EDing. Or some kids are not sold on a number 1 and want a choice, etc. or their number 1 choice doesn’t offer ED. Many kids EA, but those decisions are strung out into mid Feb at some schools.

It is however we don’t know how many other of the 150 or so applied ED and did not get in. You only ever see the first crop of these typically more impressive (air quoted) schools in ED anyway, at privates. There will be a more balanced outcome overall come April. Wait and see.
